Alison, my classmate from the University of Pennsylvania who is currently in
the process of converting to Judaism, gasped at the harshness of the words
delivered stoically by her boyfriend's mother.<
If she converts in according to Halacha, then she would be a Jew.
Not according to the Orthodox Jews -- anyone converted by a
Conservative or Reform rabbi is not considered Jewish even when done
according to Halacha. Indeed. they consider such converts to have been
duped because, they believe, only Orthodox rabbis can convert a
non-Jewish person.
All 'converts' have been duped, yiD. You can't change race.
