Why don't you ask the military, they seem rather keen on knives (if
you'll pardon the pun) as well as firearms.

That's true.
So linking back to how we got to this: a gun is suitable for some jobs,
a knife for others. So the absence of fire arms can cause some "jobs"
(i.e. crimes) to become impossible, or at least more difficult.
Causation.
When all firearm manufacturing ceases and all firearms are destroyed get back
to me. Until then, I'll keep my gun.
