Re: Shaping Perceptions about the GOP Convention |
Gactimus <gactimus@xrs.net> wrote in message news:<cgvtir$ngk$6@news1.usf.edu>...
Since we all know who the Republican nominees for President and Vice
President are, in many ways the convention really is a big infomercial for
the party and for the President.
Ya think?
While Bush's speech will be real news, as
long as he articulates his vision for the next four years (rather than
saluting, "reporting for duty" and waxing nostalgic over his Texas Air
National Guard days),
As opposed to his Air Alabama NG days, which nobody else seems to
remember him serving.
most of the convention will be about creating an
image the GOP hopes voters will find attractive. The image perception game
is not, however, limited to the GOP. The Democrats and the media will be
spinning images of their own. Here are some things I expect to see this
week.
The Republicans -- The GOP will be selling the President as the man most
qualified to prosecute the war on terror, keep the economy growing,
Taken as a whole, Bush's 4 years have been anything but a growing
economy.

the tax cuts permanent
Bush's trickle down tax cuts haven't had a great deal of effect on the
economy, but they have helped his power base -- the have mores -- have
more.
and even create an ownership society through Social
Security and other initiatives.
Over the past 4 years American workers have had to face the facts that
they will be working more years, with less overtime, and with less
guarantee of being able to retire.
They will also be trying to convince
America that they are a diverse "big tent" party. I have already heard the
claim that the GOP delegates this year are the most diverse group ever. I
wish the GOP would resist the politically correct color, gender and sexual
orientation counting engaged in by their opponents and stress their true
diversity -- that of thought. Everyone knows how many black Republicans
there are, for instance, and unfortunately, it ain't many.
No kidding.
However, there
really is a diversity of thought in the Republican party about issues such
as abortion, government spending, gay rights, and many other issues.
Republican pro-choice and gay rights supporters just don't have the
sense to leave the party where they're not wanted. And let's hear
somebody question the amount of influence the religious right should
have on Republican policy.Ain't gonna happen.
For
those who insist on counting, compare the number of pro-choice Republicans
speaking at the GOP convention to those of pro-life Democrats speaking at
the DNC in Boston.
Yes, the RNC is all about "packaging" itself as not really as radical
as their actual agenda would have you believe. The Republican agenda
is anything but pro-choice.
The Democrats -- The Democrats will be spinning the entire week that the
Republicans are what they have said President Bush is, liars about who they
really are and what they want to do.
Bush was less than forthcoming with the American people about Iraqi
WMDs and connections to al-Qaeda, then when there was trouble, he
conveniently blamed the mess on the CIA, when he and others were
spoiling for war with Saddam all along.
They will seek to portray Republicans
as far right extremists who are trying to fool the public by putting
forward their more moderate faces.
Which is what they'll be trying to do.
Heck, I'd be satisfied if Republicans put forward their "normal" face
-- economic frugality, less government, no foreign entangelments.
Unfortunately, the Republican party has been taken over by radicals
intent on building up tremendous Federal deficits so that Congress
will have no choice but to drastically reduce/eliminate any economic
safety nets, getting rid of the separation between Church and State,
ending US participation in global treaties and organizations, basing
its Middle East policy on "What's good for Israel is good for the US,"
and trying to bully the rest of the world into submission. None of
these is good for the US.
I expect they will be accusing the GOP
of being behind the Swiftie ads,
Which they were.
although I would think they would want to
take advantage of the GOP convention to change the subject, however, Susan
Estrich already brought this up on Brit Hume's show last night. She said
that if Bush wins it will be an "illegitimate victory" due to the Swift
Boat Vet ads.
Among other things. Although if Kerry doesnt have the good sense to
exploit these issues to his good, then he deserves to lose.
I wonder, if Kerry wins, will she say it is an illegitimate
victory due to the Hitler, AWOL, MoveOn ads and F9/11? (Okay, I don't
really wonder.)
Well, was Bush AWOL or not? The records don't seem to support his
claim that he showed up for service in Alabama. The records do support
Kerry's receiving medals for heroism under fire. Despite SBV lies to
the contrary.
What is ironic is that Republicans wax poetic about patriotism until
it comes to actual patriots like Kerry, McCain, and Cleland, who might
disagree with them. Then they'll go out of their way to attack them,
even if it means lying about facts supported by government documents
and eyewitnesses.
Hillary Clinton, who has been assigned "truth squad" duty
(it pained me just to type that), will be pointing out all the "lies" that
the Republicans are telling this week. That alone, should make the
convention "must see t.v."
Not really. Clinton, in some respects, is a toady for the moderate
Dem. agenda and for the war in Iraq. She certainly doesn't speak for
all Democrats.
Republicans just can't get over Clinton being President, can they?
The Media -- My prediction is that much of the media coverage will come
straight from their old play book,
Ya think? Expecting the media to think for itself is like expeting
Shaq to make his free throws.
but there will be a few twists. Although
very little has been said about abortion this election season, this will
still be a theme for the media, as it is every four years. They will point
out that all Republicans do not agree on abortion and that the GOP is
trying to hide this fact by featuring so many pro-choice speakers.
Which it is. Although I seriously doubt the media will expend a lot of
energy criticizing the Republicans over this.
This
year a relatively new issue will take center stage -- gay marriage. The
platform position is much more restrictive on the topic of gay marriage,
civil unions, and domestic partnership rights than many Republicans are.
Too bad those same Republicans aren't brave enough to challenge their
leadership over it.
For some reason there wasn't much reporting of the fact that 90+ percent of
delegates at the Democrats' convention disagreed with their platform
position on the Iraq War,
Reasonable point. That pissed me off, too. Just like it pissed me off
when Kerry took Bush's bait about supporting the war vote. I fear that
may have been the turning point in the campaign.
but I suspect that will not be the case with the
media coverage of the abortion and gay marriage issues. In a nutshell, the
media will portray the GOP as master spinners -- tightly scripting their
program, trying to hide their true face from the public.
Which they are.
This year a big focus of the coverage will be of the protests and the
unprecedented security measures surrounding the convention. If the
protestors who make the news are obnoxious, profane or naked (as they were
last week), they will help President Bush enormously. If they are more
subdued and there is no violence or other major disruption, they will
probably get tons of coverage and could overshadow some of the convention
message.
Nobody cares about protesters. Look at the millions who protested the
Iraqi adventure -- before it started. Of course, the Vietnam protests
weren't effective in the early years of the war, either.
As always, Republicans, Democrats and the media will engage all week long
in the expectations game, talk of snapshot polls and in post-speech
analysis. What I think will be important to note about the GOP convention
compared to the Democrat convention is the substance of the speeches. I
expect the speeches to be forward- looking, while still paying homage to
the past (although no talk of Vietnam)
How could the Republicans talk about Vietnam, their leader was
apparently AWOL and they spent the 2000 election bashing the only hero
from that war they have left? The rest of the Republican leadership,
like Clinton, "had other priorities."
and honoring those who lost their
lives on 9/11 and in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Those who lost their lives in Iraq lost them due to poor planning by
Bush and Rumsfeld. Bush I knew the importance of coalition building,
spreading the burden, having enough boots on the ground, and having a
post-war plan and exit strategy. Bush II didn't seem to give those
issues much thought.
Due to the strength of the
speakers, I predict that we will hear some incredibly good speeches. Enjoy
the show.
McCain, Giuliani, and Ahnold are mostly putting in their time. If they
don't support the current President they stand no chance of getting
the party's nomination down the line.

So What, perhaps you could use a little religion it might just cause you

Yeah, that's what this world needs, more religion. The whole basis of
religion is faith, not thought, and therein lies the problem as we all know
it's been a major factor (if not the primary reason) in the majority of
conflicts throughout history.
According to a piece recently by beloved GOP newsguy Paul Harvey, the Bush
administration has only just realized that there are serious religious
aspects to the war in Iraq. Guess they somehow missed that little gem
during their careful planning phase.

The right to make decisions regarding your own body is hardly tantamount to
using abortion as a method of birth control. The medical risks alone make a
mockery of that argument.
Using your reason, I can surmise that those who kill doctors who perform
abortions are actually saving many lives by killing an individual then? How
many virgins will they get?
The Democrats -- The Democrats will be spinning the entire week that

victory due to the Hitler, AWOL, MoveOn ads and F9/11? (Okay, I don't

Well, was Bush AWOL or not? The records don't seem to support his

It does not make one iota of difference, Bush did not run on his Guard

when
you are snared in your own trap you scream like stuck hogs.
It doesn't matter if the man in charge of deciding which country will be the
next to host a battlefield for our military to die on may not have even
served his time in the NG while avoiding real duty? While it's an
unfortunate & somewhat disgraceful fact that the majority of current
politicians failed to stand up in service of their country, it still counts
for a lot in my book.
(I'm ex-USMC, FWIW)
Kerry's receiving medals for heroism under fire. Despite SBV lies to
the contrary.
What is ironic is that Republicans wax poetic about patriotism until
it comes to actual patriots like Kerry, McCain, and Cleland, who might
disagree with them.
Disagreement is one thing, but a patriot does not turn on his own comrades
and accuse them of acts which he had no knowledge were tru or not, one
might
call someone like this a close relative of Benedict Arnold.
Oh, you mean like most of the Not-so-swifties, many of whom have now
admitted they have zero first-hand knowledge of Kerry's combat record?
Then they'll go out of their way to attack them,
even if it means lying about facts supported by government documents
and eyewitnesses.
Hillary Clinton, who has been assigned "truth squad" duty
(it pained me just to type that), will be pointing out all the "lies"
that
the Republicans are telling this week. That alone, should make the
convention "must see t.v."
Not really. Clinton, in some respects, is a toady for the moderate
Dem. agenda and for the war in Iraq. She certainly doesn't speak for
all Democrats.
Republicans just can't get over Clinton being President, can they?
No one reall gives a damn until of course until Hillary starts shooting
off
her big mouth which makes her fair game.
The Media -- My prediction is that much of the media coverage will
come
straight from their old play book,
Ya think? Expecting the media to think for itself is like expeting
Shaq to make his free throws.
but there will be a few twists. Although
very little has been said about abortion this election season, this
will
still be a theme for the media, as it is every four years. They will
point
out that all Republicans do not agree on abortion and that the GOP is
trying to hide this fact by featuring so many pro-choice speakers.
Which it is. Although I seriously doubt the media will expend a lot of
energy criticizing the Republicans over this.
This
year a relatively new issue will take center stage -- gay marriage.
The
platform position is much more restrictive on the topic of gay
marriage,
civil unions, and domestic partnership rights than many Republicans
are.
Too bad those same Republicans aren't brave enough to challenge their
leadership over it.
For some reason there wasn't much reporting of the fact that 90+
percent
of
delegates at the Democrats' convention disagreed with their platform
position on the Iraq War,
Reasonable point. That pissed me off, too. Just like it pissed me off
when Kerry took Bush's bait about supporting the war vote. I fear that
may have been the turning point in the campaign.
but I suspect that will not be the case with the
media coverage of the abortion and gay marriage issues. In a nutshell,
the
media will portray the GOP as master spinners -- tightly scripting
their
program, trying to hide their true face from the public.
Which they are.
Read the platform and then make a stupid statement like that again.
Try reading it yourself instead of listening to the Word of Rush version.
Then try to square it with what's being said at the GOP convention. You'll
find some pretty staggering differences.
This year a big focus of the coverage will be of the protests and the
unprecedented security measures surrounding the convention. If the
protestors who make the news are obnoxious, profane or naked (as they
were
last week), they will help President Bush enormously. If they are more
subdued and there is no violence or other major disruption, they will
probably get tons of coverage and could overshadow some of the
convention
message.
Nobody cares about protesters. Look at the millions who protested the
Iraqi adventure -- before it started. Of course, the Vietnam protests
weren't effective in the early years of the war, either.
As always, Republicans, Democrats and the media will engage all week
long
in the expectations game, talk of snapshot polls and in post-speech
analysis. What I think will be important to note about the GOP
convention
compared to the Democrat convention is the substance of the speeches.
I
expect the speeches to be forward- looking, while still paying homage
to
the past (although no talk of Vietnam)
How could the Republicans talk about Vietnam, their leader was
apparently AWOL and they spent the 2000 election bashing the only hero
from that war they have left? The rest of the Republican leadership,
like Clinton, "had other priorities."
and honoring those who lost their

Poor planning is hardly a new topic. It was discussed before W sent our men

issues much thought.
More hind sight to bad that we all don't have the luxury of

the mess that the dumbo's made of Viet Nam.
Due to the strength of the

Enjoy
the show.
McCain, Giuliani, and Ahnold are mostly putting in their time. If they
don't support the current President they stand no chance of getting

Since we all know who the Republican nominees for President and Vice
President are, in many ways the convention really is a big infomercial
for
the party and for the President.
The image perception
game
is not, however, limited to the GOP. The Democrats and the media will be
spinning images of their own. Here are some things I expect to see this
week.
The Republicans -- The GOP will be selling the President as the man most
qualified to prosecute the war on terror, keep the economy growing,
Taken as a whole, Bush's 4 years have been anything but a growing
economy.
As opposed to the declining economy of WJC who left office just in time to
saddle others with the problems creating a welfare state generated.
LOL. Typical Repub-spin. Everything bad that happens on Bush's watch
is Clinton's fault. And yet Repubs keep harping about taking
responsibility for one's actions - or lack thereof. Face it, the
economy during the Clinton Presidency was strong. Job growth was
strong. The Federal deficit was being wiped out. The economy during
the Bush Presidency has been quite weak. The Federal deficit is
growing by leaps and bounds. Job growth has been sluggish at best.
.
make
the tax cuts permanent
Bush's trickle down tax cuts haven't had a great deal of effect on the
economy, but they have helped his power base -- the have mores -- have
more.
Easy to say but much harder to substantiate, why don't you try right
here.....................................
Prove me wrong, here..........................
and even create an ownership society through Social
Security and other initiatives.
Over the past 4 years American workers have had to face the facts that
they will be working more years, with less overtime, and with less
guarantee of being able to retire.
And a nincom poop like you forgets the fact that retirement problems started
many years prior to Bush taking office.
LOL. Typical Repub-speak. If you can't attack the message, attack the
messenger.
There really would not be problems
with the SS system if the democrates who invented that ponzi game had taken
steps to correct it, but its easier to be elected if you ignore the problems
until they become critical, which is exactly what they did.
LOL. So now the SSA is a ponzi scheme. Where were you 70 years ago?
Then along comes
their sycohant idiots like you who attemps to lay the blame elsewhere.
The average worker is less well-off under Bush than Clinton. Face it.
What you might do is to compare the American worker with any other worker in
the world and see which is better off.
So it doesn't matter that living standards have declined under Bush?
POeople like you are a real bore,>>>>>>>>>
If I'm boring you, don't reply. Your option.
you
cry with a front seat in heaven and a loaf of bread under each arm. If you
think this is so bad got find the place that is better.
Sounds like a bumper sticker .... from the 60s.
They will also be trying to convince
America that they are a diverse "big tent" party. I have already heard
the
claim that the GOP delegates this year are the most diverse group ever.
I
wish the GOP would resist the politically correct color, gender and
sexual
orientation counting engaged in by their opponents and stress their true
diversity -- that of thought. Everyone knows how many black Republicans
there are, for instance, and unfortunately, it ain't many.
No kidding.
However, there
really is a diversity of thought in the Republican party about issues
such
as abortion, government spending, gay rights, and many other issues.
Republican pro-choice and gay rights supporters just don't have the
sense to leave the party where they're not wanted. And let's hear
somebody question the amount of influence the religious right should
have on Republican policy.Ain't gonna happen.
So What, perhaps you could use a little religion it might just cause you to
think a little more, as strange as that might sound.
LOL. Religion and free thought don't always go hand-in-hand.
For
those who insist on counting, compare the number of pro-choice
Republicans
speaking at the GOP convention to those of pro-life Democrats speaking
at
the DNC in Boston.
Yes, the RNC is all about "packaging" itself as not really as radical
as their actual agenda would have you believe. The Republican agenda
is anything but pro-choice.
Yep and their is a difference in what pro choice says and what it does. They
should better call themselves pro abortion, which in the minds of some
people makes them murderers. However any thinking person knows that using
abortion as a method of birth control is nothing but plain murder. Just
think if your mother would have had and abortion were would you be, not here
making any remarks and that is a fact, dead is what you would be.
Typical. Radical conservatives always get so hostile in the name of
anti-abortion. Besides, the issue wasn't what I thought about
pro-choice. It was whether the Republicans were diverse enough to
allow pro-choicers under their tent, or whether it was all a front.
From your remarks, I take it that you support the idea of putting on a
good front for public consumption, even though you and most other good
Republicans are firmly anti-choice.
The Democrats -- The Democrats will be spinning the entire week that the
Republicans are what they have said President Bush is, liars about who
they
really are and what they want to do.
Bush was less than forthcoming with the American people about Iraqi
WMDs and connections to al-Qaeda, then when there was trouble, he
conveniently blamed the mess on the CIA, when he and others were
The above is proof that one of two things are true, you are either a
brainless moron or you can not read. Have someone read the 9/11 commissions
report to you, wherin you will find that they blamed the intelligence
agencies for the failure in providing good information.
Now there you go again. The 9-11 commission was a political whitewash.
Surely you knew that. The commission, which was firmly divided between
Republicans and Democrats and which had a hard enough time getting
Bush to let them go ahead with their deliberations, was not about to
actually accuse anyone of wrongdoing.
Bush read in the INTEL reports what he wanted to read. George Tenet
was stupid enough to give him the ammo to deceive Congress into giving
him a blank check in Iraq.
Unfortunately for Bush, the actual facts do not support his claims --
there were no WMDs and there was no al-Qaeda connection.
On the other hand, perhaps Bush simply misread his INTEL reports and
where it said Iran had a WMD program and had allowed safe passage to
al-Qaeda members, he read "Iraq." He seems to have had Iraq on the
brain since entering office.
But that does not make any difference to left wing lunatics
who have convinced themselves that the truth is a lie and a lie is the
truth.
No, that would be the Bush mantra.
spoiling for war with Saddam all along.
They will seek to portray Republicans
as far right extremists who are trying to fool the public by putting
forward their more moderate faces.
Which is what they'll be trying to do.
But old Rudy really tore John Kerry a new butt hole, what we need is a few
more moderates like him.
LOL. Moderate is a relative term with respect to Republicans.
As I said above you really so get carried away with the disinformation that
is pumped into your empty head, but I have to agree being a robot is much
easier then working at understanding rhe entire story.
LOL. You name-call, and yet, you do not dispute.
I expect they will be accusing the GOP
of being behind the Swiftie ads,
Which they were.
Do we assume that because you say so its true.
But it is true. Why else would the GOP lawyer who was working both
sides of the street be forced to resign?
But I will agree with you if
you will agree that the democrats are behind Soro's move on.org and the
other left wing 527's
Without a doubt, Democrats are behind Move.on. But not the Kerry
campaign.
although I would think they would want to
take advantage of the GOP convention to change the subject, however,
Susan
Estrich already brought this up on Brit Hume's show last night. She said
that if Bush wins it will be an "illegitimate victory" due to the Swift
Boat Vet ads.
Well now you amd susan go ahead and think what you choose but it sure does
look like you she and the democrats are setting up excuses for their
stupidity in advanc. Tell Susan that if Kerry can attempt to use his viet

country have a perfect right of free speech to question that record.

you can dream up, when the oppostion does the same thing it somehow becomes

No. The Bush campaign has attacked -- not for the first time -- an

not.
Among other things. Although if Kerry doesnt have the good sense to

would have been put off, or at a minimum, the Bush administration
would have had to do a better job thinking the problem through.

Not really. McCain has, on numerous occasions, disagreed with Bush. He
found particularly noxious the SBV campaign. The only reason he's
standing behind Bush now is because he still longs to be the Repub
Presidential candidate in 2008. Unfortunately, so do Giuliani and

citizens of this country have a perfect right of free speech to
question that record. Democrats like you and that Estrich broad love
to be able to use any tactic you can dream up, when the oppostion
does the same thing it somehow becomes illegal unethical or both,
those who live by the sword die by the sword.
Among other things. Although if Kerry doesnt have the good sense to
exploit these issues to his good, then he deserves to lose.
I wonder, if Kerry wins, will she say it is an illegitimate
victory due to the Hitler, AWOL, MoveOn ads and F9/11? (Okay, I
don't really wonder.)
Well, was Bush AWOL or not? The records don't seem to support his
claim that he showed up for service in Alabama. The records do
support
It does not make one iota of difference, Bush did not run on his Guard
record, thats just more mud that liberals like you love to sling ,
but when you are snared in your own trap you scream like stuck hogs.
Kerry's receiving medals for heroism under fire. Despite SBV lies to
the contrary.
What is ironic is that Republicans wax poetic about patriotism until
it comes to actual patriots like Kerry, McCain, and Cleland, who
might disagree with them.
Disagreement is one thing, but a patriot does not turn on his own
comrades and accuse them of acts which he had no knowledge were tru
or not, one might call someone like this a close relative of Benedict
Arnold.
Then they'll go out of their way to attack them,
even if it means lying about facts supported by government documents
and eyewitnesses.
Hillary Clinton, who has been assigned "truth squad" duty
(it pained me just to type that), will be pointing out all the
"lies" that the Republicans are telling this week. That alone,
should make the convention "must see t.v."
Not really. Clinton, in some respects, is a toady for the moderate
Dem. agenda and for the war in Iraq. She certainly doesn't speak for
all Democrats.
Republicans just can't get over Clinton being President, can they?
No one reall gives a damn until of course until Hillary starts
shooting off her big mouth which makes her fair game.
The Media -- My prediction is that much of the media coverage will
come straight from their old play book,
Ya think? Expecting the media to think for itself is like expeting
Shaq to make his free throws.
but there will be a few twists. Although
very little has been said about abortion this election season, this
will still be a theme for the media, as it is every four years.
They will point out that all Republicans do not agree on abortion
and that the GOP is trying to hide this fact by featuring so many
pro-choice speakers.
Which it is. Although I seriously doubt the media will expend a lot
of energy criticizing the Republicans over this.
This
year a relatively new issue will take center stage -- gay marriage.
The platform position is much more restrictive on the topic of gay
marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnership rights than many
Republicans are.
Too bad those same Republicans aren't brave enough to challenge their
leadership over it.
For some reason there wasn't much reporting of the fact that 90+
percent of delegates at the Democrats' convention disagreed with
their platform position on the Iraq War,
Reasonable point. That pissed me off, too. Just like it pissed me off
when Kerry took Bush's bait about supporting the war vote. I fear
that may have been the turning point in the campaign.
but I suspect that will not be the case with the
media coverage of the abortion and gay marriage issues. In a
nutshell, the media will portray the GOP as master spinners --
tightly scripting their program, trying to hide their true face
from the public.
Which they are.
Read the platform and then make a stupid statement like that again.
This year a big focus of the coverage will be of the protests and
the unprecedented security measures surrounding the convention. If
the protestors who make the news are obnoxious, profane or naked
(as they were last week), they will help President Bush enormously.
If they are more subdued and there is no violence or other major
disruption, they will probably get tons of coverage and could
overshadow some of the convention message.
Nobody cares about protesters. Look at the millions who protested the
Iraqi adventure -- before it started. Of course, the Vietnam protests
weren't effective in the early years of the war, either.
As always, Republicans, Democrats and the media will engage all
week long in the expectations game, talk of snapshot polls and in
post-speech analysis. What I think will be important to note about
the GOP convention compared to the Democrat convention is the
substance of the speeches. I expect the speeches to be forward-
looking, while still paying homage to the past (although no talk of
Vietnam)
How could the Republicans talk about Vietnam, their leader was
apparently AWOL and they spent the 2000 election bashing the only
hero from that war they have left? The rest of the Republican
leadership, like Clinton, "had other priorities."
and honoring those who lost their
lives on 9/11 and in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Those who lost their lives in Iraq lost them due to poor planning by
Bush and Rumsfeld. Bush I knew the importance of coalition building,
spreading the burden, having enough boots on the ground, and having a
Poor planning, thats a new one. What you are talking about is the
hind sight of dumbocrats. Almost any damn fool can be critical of
another after the facts are in, try that prior to the event and we
will see that perfection in not one of your strong suits either.
post-war plan and exit strategy. Bush II didn't seem to give those
issues much thought.
More hind sight to bad that we all don't have the luxury of
looking into the future. But then neither do you, we know that
because of the mess that the dumbo's made of Viet Nam.
Due to the strength of the
speakers, I predict that we will hear some incredibly good
speeches. Enjoy the show.
McCain, Giuliani, and Ahnold are mostly putting in their time. If
they don't support the current President they stand no chance of
getting the party's nomination down the line.
Love you're excuses but thats exactly what they are excuses.

Taken as a whole, Bush's 4 years have been anything but a growing
economy.
Maybe not the last 4 years thanks to the economy Bush inherited from
Clinton and from the fallout from 9-11, but the economy has been growing
for the past two years.

You don't keep up with current events much, do you?
