The New York Times [NYT] is reporting on its online edition today that U.S.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned.

A senior administration official told the New York Times that Gonzales
will announce the decision later this morning in Washington. The White House
has not confirmed the report.

Critics have been calling for Gonzales' resignation as he weathered
Justice Department scandals involving the firing of nine United States
attorneys late last year and questions about whether he testified truthfully
about the National Security Agency's surveillance programs, the Times
