Teen Promotes Own Homosexuality in School Election
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,118228,00.html
RALEIGH, N.C. — An openly gay student is fighting to campaign in his
high school election with posters that read: "Gay Guys Know
Everything!" and "Queer Guy for Hunt High."
...."The school administration's removal of these two campaign posters
is a clear violation of Jarred's constitutional right to free
expression," Leslie Cooper, an ACLU attorney, wrote in a letter to the
school Monday. "The Supreme Court has made it clear that students do
not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate."
School officials say they have the right to control and censor
candidates for student body president, especially when their speech
could interfere with learning.
"The language in the two campaign posters in question was determined
to be disruptive to the educational process and to have no relevance
to the student's qualifications for office," said Robert E. Kendall
Jr., school district spokesman in Wilson County, 40 miles east of
Raleigh.

Hmmm, I find it interesting that the ACLU is so interested in the
right to free expression.
If someone had posted up a poster that says, "Jesus Love"...the ACLU
wouldn't be fighting for their right to free expression. That student
would be suspended and severly reprimanded.
How DARE we have something say Jesus Loves...but it is o.k. to say

Wrong on each point. The reason is because a STUDENT made the poster
for a student election. The ACLU, as well as most people the
understand the importance of the First Amendment, understand the
difference. If a school administration or teacher at a public school
forces the students and teachers to observe a religous practice, such
as a morning prayer, this does not respect the freedom of religion
that people of other faiths, sects, and no faith at all enjoy.
However, if a student running for a student office includes in his or
her campaign a religious message, then there is nothing wrong, because
nobody is forced to observe that religion or religious practice.
That is also why the ACLU defends students rights to form religous
study groups at schools under the same rules as other school clubs are
governed.

named Brown and Miller, because the slogans on one of their posters

Really? It would seem that you are not the one that understands.
Perhaps because you don't want to.
How is forcing all the students and teachers to observe religious
practices that neither they nor their parents subscribe to honoring
Freedom of Religion? If the principal or a teacher started school
each day with prayers to Allah or the Goddess, you would be up in arms
and raising a ruckus to the school board. However, you think that
others should be forced to sit through your religious practices in the
same way.
The ACLU has sides with Rev. Jerry Falwell when he was attempting to
incorporate his church in Virginia. They sided with Rush Limbaugh
about his medical records. The have helped countless people with
religious matters in the legal arena, both Christians and
non-Christians. The ACLU site states quite explicitly their stance on
religious issues, including in favor of student run religious clubs in
schools.
The facts of the matter show that your stance does not jibe with
reality.
If a school administration or teacher at a public school
forces the students and teachers to observe a religous practice, such

touch on the pertainent issue of freedom of expression.
How do you know that there weren't posters for the student government

mentioned in the articles that I saw, because it was not pertainent to
the issue. How do you know that there aren't religous clubs at the
school, or that such clubs have been denied when students tried to
formally form them?
There was nothing about religion mentioned in the articles, because it
has nothing to do with the story. My personal opinion is that you
dislike the ACLU because they help people stand up to bullies and
bullying organizations that want to force others to observe their (the
bullies') religious beliefs. The help protect people's rights to
freedom of expression and religion from people like you. The protect
the minority from the tyranny of the majority, just as the First
Amendment is intended to do.

I have been following the news for longer than that, I have seen an
INCREASE in religious freedom in general because the government and
schools are being prevented from forcing their religious views on the
general populous and students respectively.
All religions are being treated in the same manner, whether they have
1 million adherents or 100. That is freeedom of religion because
there is no favorism given to the "popular" religions, and "popular"
are prevented from discrimination and forcing their views and "values"
on the people that do not subscribe to that religion.
For example, Wiccans, Shamans, and Druids can worship just as openly
as Christians, Jews, and Muslims can, and are subject to the same
rules and restrictions, and can expect to be free of persecution.
That is the core of freedom of religion.
Only the student that had his posters taken

Either you did not read the rest of my post,
Correct
Well, that explains why you did not address the fact that the issue
was freedom of expression, and not freedom of religion. You were
afraid to read the facts about the matter.
or you could not counter it.
Not worth it
I.e., you could not provide anything in opposition to what I said,
except your misguided opinions.
You went on a rant about freedom of religion, but did not even
touch on the pertainent issue of freedom of expression.
How do you know that there weren't posters for the student government
candidates that mentioned religious beliefs? Nothing about that was
mentioned in the articles that I saw, because it was not pertainent to
Mark Sebree
Again, you have avoid the pertainent issue of freedom of expression,
and just show your dislike of the ACLU because they help people that
worship minority religions stand up to the bullying tactics of people
like you that want to persecute and marginalize them.

RALEIGH, N.C. ? An openly gay student is fighting to campaign in his
high school election with posters that read: "Gay Guys Know
Everything!" and "Queer Guy for Hunt High."
..."The school administration's removal of these two campaign posters
is a clear violation of Jarred's constitutional right to free
expression," Leslie Cooper, an ACLU attorney, wrote in a letter to the
school Monday.
Kendall
Jr., school district spokesman in Wilson County, 40 miles east of
Raleigh.

Teen Promotes Own Homosexuality in School Election
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,118228,00.html
RALEIGH, N.C. ? An openly gay student is fighting to campaign in
his
high school election with posters that read: "Gay Guys Know
Everything!" and "Queer Guy for Hunt High."
..."The school administration's removal of these two campaign
posters
is a clear violation of Jarred's constitutional right to free
expression," Leslie Cooper, an ACLU attorney, wrote in a letter
to
the
school Monday. "The Supreme Court has made it clear that
students do
not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate."
School officials say they have the right to control and censor
candidates for student body president, especially when their
speech
could interfere with learning.
"The language in the two campaign posters in question was
determined
to be disruptive to the educational process and to have no
relevance
to the student's qualifications for office," said Robert E.
Kendall
Jr., school district spokesman in Wilson County, 40 miles east
of
Raleigh.

Hmmm, I find it interesting that the ACLU is so interested in
the
right to free expression.
If someone had posted up a poster that says, "Jesus Love"...the
ACLU
wouldn't be fighting for their right to free expression. That
student
would be suspended and severly reprimanded.
Wrong on each point. The reason is because a STUDENT made the
poster
for a student election.
I don't care what the reason was, if a person had put a poster up
that
says
Jesus Loves
they would have been suspended and attacked for it.
It is well know you don't about reasoning.
The ACLU, as well as most people the
understand the importance of the First Amendment, understand the
difference.
Except when it comes to God
It is a violation of the Constitution. No wonder they refused to make
you a police officer. Just imagine the violations that would occur
from your reckless behavior.
Correcting another David Barnes lie
David Barnes lies and makes up phoney accusations about people in order
to
trick them into responding to him.
"Trick them into responding?" LOL!!! Hardly. You live in a strange
world. One minute you are arguing with me, the next you are so bloody
you give up and try to claim you are being mature or some *****.
You can't even stand by your convictions. Loss of self control must
drive you crazy.
I never applied to become a police officer, therefore the claim
"refused" is
a lie.
Your supervisor said you applied to the Sheriffs Office. Doesn't that
count?
David Barnes has never spoken to any supervisor of mine.
Liar.
I have never applied to any Sheriffs Office, nor State Police.
Just the city, eh?
Anyone can verify this information by contacting the Delaware State
Department of Corrections
How would they know?
Not one supervisor or administrator has ever heard of David Barnes
But you said you discussed me with them. Liar.
I applied to become a Correctional Officer shortly after my term with
the
Air Force, and was accepted and doing very well in that career field.
Except for those "disabilities" you collect welfare on.
