A jury convicted Oak Park kindergarten teacher James Perry of four
counts of criminal sexual conduct Wednesday, deciding he assaulted two
boys, ages 4 and 5, in a classroom last October.
“But I didn’t do it,” said Perry, 32, as the verdict was read. Perry
faces up to life in prison when sentenced Oct. 12, although he will
likely do much less time because he has no criminal record.
Jurors deliberated briefly Tuesday afternoon and much of Wednesday
before arriving at a verdict. Perry appeared to fight tears as he was
taken into custody.
Perry’s father, James Perry Sr., and his minister, the Rev. Marjorie
Lyda, of First Baptist Church, cried and held each other after the
verdict.
