Statutory Rape and Abortion Clinics
If a 13 year old girl said she was pregnant by her 22 year old
boyfriend, would you protect her boyfriend? Would you tell her how she
could cross state lines for an abortion to avoid telling her parents?
Even if she never said they would be mad?
A study by Life Dynamics' Mark Crutcher has shown that out of 800
calls to abortion clinics, most calls resulted in actions designed to
get the girl her abortion even if it's clearly something that should
instead be reported to the State for investigation.
Crutcher's story points out that girls under 15 who become pregnant
are more likely to be involved with a grown man than a young teen. They
are also more prone to venerial diseases, estrangement from their
parents, and other life complications up to and including suicide than
are the ones whose social life is in their own age group.
Based on the figures for abortions and for statutory rape reportings,
Crutcher decided that abortion clinics just had to be failing their
legal responsibility to report suspected statutory rapes. His
organization therefore called 800 abortion clinics, with someone posing
as a worried 13-year old with a 22-year old boyfriend.
In very few cases did the clinic worker attempt to get the identity of
the boyfriend. In most cases the advice that was given was to not
mention the boyfriend's age, and many of them acknowledged to the
"teen" that they were supposed to report such situations.
Planned Parenthood was offered the chance to hear the tapes, but was
not interested unless they could hear them for the first time without
witnesses. They simply indicated their suspicion that the tapes were
falsified.

Sadly, plenty are "getting pregnant" under that age.
Are they not going to get an abortion, and if they do or if they don't, what
part of statutory rape laws do you fail to understand?
The part where how her lover's age is relevant to her right to choose
abortion.
And, what is Planned Parenthood's business?

The situation described cannot be confirmed by a phone call. In many
cases, from my understanding, the law does not require reporting from
hearsay calls by reporting agencies. The people making the calls also
often would not leave a name and valid return phone number, which means
that there is nothing that the police could do anyway. And with caller
ID, if the calls were coming from out of state, there is even more
reason to suspect that the call is a prank. And given the amount of
harassment that Planned Parenthood commonly receives, there is no
reason for them to call the police except to report the possible
harassment. Without any evidence whatsoever that the person is who
they say that they are and in the situation that they say they are in,
there is no reason to report the call, since there is nothing for the
police to go on for an investigation.
When anti-choice advocates engage in harassment and attempt entrapment,
they should expect to fail, since that only make themselves look like
fools for accusing their victims for being too intelligent for falling
for such a trap.
