Object: Still In Denial
I actually laughed out loud when I read this.
³Vice President ***** Cheney dismissed as "hogwash" Wednesday the idea
that blunders may have hurt the administration's credibility on Iraq³
<http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/24/cheney/index.html>
And this is one of the idiots that is sending Americans to die.
Cheney added, "The notion that somehow the effort hasn't been worth it,
or that we shouldn't go ahead and complete the task, is just dead
wrong.
Now, for the record, during Vietnam, when Cheney was of service age, he
received several deferments, the last by marriage (in his own words,
"had other priorities than military service.") This is the guy who
claims the deaths in Iraq were ³worth it.²
As for the others who think this is worth it:
Former Att'y Gen. John Ashcroft - did not serve received seven
deferments.
Karl Rove - avoided the draft, did not serve, ³too busy being a
Republican,² he said.
Rick Santorum, R-PA, - did not serve.
George Felix Allen, Republican Senator from Virginia - a supporter of
Nixon and the Vietnam war, did not serve.
Dennis Hastert - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Trent Lott - avoided the draft, did not serve.
***** Armey - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Tom Delay - avoided the draft, did not serve, claiming, "So many
minority youths had volunteered ... that there was literally no room
for patriotic folks like himself.
As for Bush, he decided that a six-year National Guard commitment
really means four years. Still says that he's "been to war." Also,
went AWOL. (Sound familiar, Osprey?)
John McCain, Al Gore, John Kerry, Bob Dole, Chuck Hagel, Jimmy Carter,
George McGovern, John F. Kennedy - All Served With Honor.

From the ROTC web site;
Army ROTC is an elective curriculum you take along with your required
college classes. It prepares you with the tools, training and
experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment.
Along with great leadership training, Army ROTC can pay for your
college tuition, too. You will have a normal college student
experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you
will be an Officer in the Army.

Being an Officer in the U.S. Army means you’re a leader, a counselor,
a strategist and a motivator. It's similar to being a vital manager in
a corporation. As an Officer, you will lead other Soldiers in all
situations and adjust in environments that are always changing. They
are driven to achieve success with their team on every mission.

Army ROTC is one of the Nation’s top leadership programs, with many
benefits to joining. Through Army ROTC you can:
Get help with your college tuition with an Army ROTC scholarship
Gain experience you can't find anywhere else
Gain the respect of your peers and future employers
Train to become a leader and manager
Clinton was not from a wealthy family, it's a wonder he did not sign

My son joined ROTC in high school, then won a appointment to the Air
Force Academy. My daughter also was in ROTC, and went to U.S.Coast
Guard Academy.
Both were commissioned officers, neither ever saw service. Both
found jobs considered more important than military service. My
daughter teaches, my son is a engineer for the D.O.T.
ROTC saved me a tub full of money. I only needed to supply them with
pocket money.

<snip>
At the time Clinton went to college, ROTC was mandatory at many
universities and colleges for the first two years. If you were
interested in getting a commission, then you had to apply for
admission to the advanced ROTC program. Then you took a battery of
qualifying tests and physical exams. Your scores were compiled and
ranked with everyone else who had applied that year and the ones on
the top of the list were admitted to the program. The advanced
program was accepted as satisfying part of your elective requirement
in some schools and not in others.
I know. I went to college during the same timeframe as Clinton.
