There's a better explanation - when they finally get over their sexual
repression, they go completely wild. I heard that explanation
regarding Mormons from some gay guy who was explaining why "Mormon
boys" were hot. The context was a poster near the SF Civic Center for
a play entitled "Confessions of a Mormon Boy" and I had said something
like, "Is that title a joke?" while walking by it.
So appealing to Occam's razor ... :-)
