I seem to recall a similar discussion a while back on meat grown
in a lab that didn't need to be slaughtered. I don't remember the
outcome; only that Dr. Josh had posted what seemed to me to be
rather definitive information on the subject.
Yeah, I recall that too, and my recollection (for what it's worth) is
that
the product would be fine, as it's not meat.
But that's the technical answer, I have the feeling that somehow someway
a
rationale would be found to ban it -- you wouldn't find an O Jew eating
a
bacon cheeseburger even if it was replicated. I could be wrong of
course.
You are. Fake shrimp isn't treyf. I've gotten some excellent pizza
with fake meat on it in Jerusalem. You'll just grab any opportunity to
cast slurs at those who, unlike you, haven't abandoned Judaism.
The only way he could even begin to be right is if there was an actual
way to get real bacon cheeseburgers in this mythical setting, and a
Jew wouldn't want anyone to think s/he was eating the real thing.
You wouldn't care, tho'.
This whole thing reminds me of an SF story I read that irked me because
of the point of Jewish law they got horribly wrong: the "last Jew in the
Universe (or something like that)" always made sure he had an actual
animal with him to slaughter because "What's kosher about molcules in
a vat?" I answered to myself "everything" and almost gave up reading the
book.

Yeah and next week Hell will phreeze over. Some things are just too
much to contemplate. Anyway, she would try to break the rules by using
