The Roman Catholic Church had no positive influence on Jewish survival
rates in Nazi-occupied countries. The countries with the best
survival rates tended to the ones least influenced by the Vatican.
Denmark's was a whopping 99.3%. Contrast that with Poland - its
Jewish survival rate was less than 5%, and Poland is a very Catholic
country.

• Another heavily Roman Catholic country is Lithuania. In Vilnius,
Lithuania, 94% of the Jews were killed. This rate of murder would have
been impossible without enthusiastic local support. There were 250,000
Jews in Lithuania before the war. The Jewish population was so devastated
by genocide that there was no recovery after the war. In 1991, there were
less than 7,000 Jews in Lithuania and many of them were planning to leave.
After the breakup of the Soviet Union, newly independent Lithuania decided
not to prosecute eight Lithuanian civilians who publicly shot Jews during
the war.

The Red Cross
The Vatican had their Pope Pius XII visiting Germany during most of the
war. The Vatican was terified of Communism and they purposely resisted
providing help to the Jews during the war for fear of offending Hitler.
Pius XII was termed ' Hitler's Pope ' and he remained silent about The
Holocaust. He also had a personal antipathy towards the Jews.

BTW, ever heard of Nieuwlande?
That's a Dutch village. Everyone there decided to shelter Jews during
WWII. Every household would hide one Jewish family or at least one
Jew.
This village wasn't catholic.
Find another place that did the same... catholic if possible...

Why on earth are you so obsessed with Jews, J Young? Every day, you
find a way to discuss the Holocaust, defend old nazis... Could it be
that you're a nazi turd?
Don't you think that if the catholic church had done anything for the
Jews during WWII, you wouldn't need -in 2007- to defend it? Don't you
think that everyone would know it by now? Why isn't anyone discussing
Raoul Wallenberg's role? Because it's obvious.
That we are still dicussing the Vatican and this ***** Pius XII's
roles during the war is a clear sign that there is something fishy
about it...
Besides, with catholics like you, who needs nazis?

Thank you for mentioning the Danes! Not only did they rescue many Jews,
they sheltered them and took the moral high road when the nazis tried to
separate the populations. Everybody, including the Danish Royal Family,
wore the armbands that the nazis were trying to impose on the Jews.

That is very likely true. The Danish official responsible for liason
with the Germans did actually tell the Germans that it would create a
great disturbance if any anti-semitic laws were passed in Denmark,
and, as long as there was a Danish government (up until 1943), the
Jews had all the legal rights of all other Danes.

One of the undertold stories is that whenever the government and/or
people resisted the German's anti-Jewish actions the Nazis backed
down. It is a falsehood that everyone was reluctant and scared for
their lives. For the most part the removal (and extermination, but
that was nicely just out of sight) of the Jews was welcomed.
Yes, there is widespread thanks to the Dutch people. Yad Vashem has

I do not understand? Do you think I said something shameful or
untrue? Did you misunderstand me? I and other Danes are proud of
that part of our history (the rescue of Danish Jews). That actually
happened and it was the ordinary people of Denmark who did it. I was
merely pointing out that the story about the king wearing the star of
David was created by allied propaganda, and I was not implying
anything bad about the king; it just happened to be a fact that Danish
Jews were never required to wear the star.

Something apparently was lost in your above message. In any event I
am still at a loss what prompted you to ask the question, since, as
far as I can see, I posted nothing negative. I have always used a
pseudonym here, and nobody, including you, has ever said anything
about it before; so why are you suggesting something underhanded now?
Was there something in the post that offended you? I certainly cannot
imagine what it was.
In answer to your question, however, I use a psedonym and a free email
address for the simple reason that I do not want to be harrassed by
the lunatics who post here. When I first started posting I used my
regular email address, and, as a result, I received so much junk (10's
of thousands of emails) that I had to get another address to use for
my friends and (at that time) my customers. It actually cost me some
very good orders that went to others during the confusion. I am not
"dodging" anything except unwanted mail. I am confused by your
question, and I am trying not to be offended; but the least you could
do was to explain what prompted your question.

This is getting very weird. My version differed in only one detail

accuse me of dishonesty based on nothing - no motivation, no evidence,

You were wrong and you were insulting without any reasonable cause.
Most of my history books are, unfortunately, in Danish, but here is a
quote from a book about our Queen:
In the book "Queen in Denmark" (translated into English) by Anne
Wolden-R=E6thinge the Danish Queen Margrethe II says about the
legend:"It is a beautiful and symbolic story, but it is not true. The
myth about the King wearing the star of David ... I can imagine that
this could have originated from a typical remark by a Copenhagen
errand boy on his bicycle: 'If they try to enforce the yellow star
here, the King will be the first to wear it!' To me, the truth is an
even greater honor for our country than the myth."
(end of quote)
That and other information can be found at http://isurvived.org/Frameset_Re=
scuers/-DanishJews.html
For example this quote:
The legend says that when the Germans ordered Jews in occupied Denmark
to identify themselves by wearing armbands with yellow stars, King
Christian X of Denmark and non-Jewish Danes thwarted the order by
donning the armbands themselves. A popular version of the legend has
King Christian sporting an armband as he makes his daily morning
horseback ride through the streets of Copenhagen, explaining to
citizens that he wears the Star of David as a demonstration of the
principal that all Danes are equal. And non-Jewish Danes respond to
their king's example by wearing the armband as well, thus preventing
the Germans from identifying Jewish citizens and rendering the order
ineffective.
Although the Danes did undertake heroic efforts to shelter their Jews
and help them escape from the Nazis, there is no real-life example of
the actions described by this legend. Danish citizens never wore the
yellow badge, nor did King Christian ever threaten to don it himself.
In fact, Danish Jews never wore the yellow badge either, nor did
German officials ever issue an order requiring Danish Jews to display
it.
(end of quote).
If you are not satisfied with the above, that is your problem. I am
not going to occupy myself with your silliness any further.
