termination of pregnancy |
Sometimes pregnancy termination is reasonable -- as when the mother does not
want the pregnancy.
I defy any pro-lifers to argue against termination in the following
circumstances:
Early detection can be of benefit with all types of birth defects in
giving the couple the option to either terminate the pregnancy or prepare
for
the delivery of an affected child. Anencephaly is incompatible with life so
that termination is quite reasonable. In those couples who object to
termination, they can consider organ donation after the baby is born. Many
chromosomal anomalies are also incompatible with life beyond 1 year of age
(trisomy 18). There are also many structural defects such as diaphragmatic
hernia, encephalocele, meningomyelocele, hydrocephalus, various cardiac and
GI abnormalities where delivery in a tertiary care center with pediatric
surgery available will benefit the baby. Please be aware that this list is
far from complete but these are just a few common examples.

Sure we do............we support euthanasia for our animals and put them out of
their misery when they are not going to make it. We certainly don't put the
terminally ill out of their misery.........we let them stay on life support and
major pain drugs until the end..............I suggest that every able bodied
adult have a piece of paper that says "do not try and save my life if I am
terminal," or "do everything possible to allow me to live no matter what
vegetative or non vegetative state I may be in."
We treat our animals better than we treat each other..........and that is
pretty sad.

That's been pointed out to this troll before, Beth. Of course, Gack is far
less equipped to defend his statements than make them.

Well, since I have horses and have to make the ugly and miserable decision to
put them out of their misery or potential misery, I tend to jump up and down
when it comes to human euthanasia which I firmly believe in. I sure don't
want, if I am terminally ill, to allow my quality of life to get so bad that I
am just miserable. I will say that when making that decision to put the animal
down, is an agonizing decision, it's made more from a gut feeling than the
heart, but the actual getting it done by the veterinarian is the most heart
wrenching feeling.....like I am playing God and I certainly don't presume to be
that perfect! :-) We do treat our animals better than we treat our fellow
human beings in times of illness/lack of quality of life; maybe someday it
won't be that way.
