The Drug Problem in America |
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a
methamphetamine
lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he
asked
me a rhetorical question, ''Why didn't we have a drug problem when you
and I
were growing up?''
I replied: I had a drug problem when I was young:
I was drug to church on Sunday morning.
I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.
I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the
weather.
I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.
I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a
lie,
brought home a bad report card, did
not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if
I
didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if
I
uttered a profane four-letter word.
I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and
cockleburs
out of dad's fields.
I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out
some
poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or
chop
some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single
dime as
a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.
Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in
everything
I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin;
and,
if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a
better
place.

Church going people in small towns and large across America are using drugs.
There is almost no school in the USA who isn't using, selling or sharing
drugs.
Here in the Bible Belt drugs are everywhere.

The more affleunt, the bigger the problem.
I suppose we are getting what we deserve what with the whole "Just say NO to
drugs" bit. As soon as you tell someone "No you can't do that" what is the
first things they want to do? Hint: Prohibition

You got that right. Even though everyone is running to church every time
they open the church doors, there is incest, spousal abuse, alcoholism, drug
abuse and more. The Churches seem to be failing to get their message across
here in the south.

I lived during prohibition and the present drug problems are very much the
same. People were being sent to jail for selling or making alcohol. People
were going blind and dieing from bad alcohol.
Once alcohol was legalized and controlled the most severe problems to
society were solved.
The same no applies to drugs. Legalize and control the safer drugs and make
punishment even more severe for the sale of dangerous or toxic drugs.

And I suppose you will determine what the "toxic drugs" are? I agree
with most of what you are saying here, but for those drugs considered
"toxic", I would take the penalties back to where they were in the
Sixties, but maybe less. Ideally all drugs should be legal, but I know
we don't live in an ideal world.
As for church goers, boy did they hang themselves on this drug issue
and the reason they did goes right to their feminist natures and
mistakes. How could they be anti-drug after Jesus made water into
wine, went up against Jewish women on related "dietary issues" and
clearly said, "What goes into your bodies doesn't defile you, it's what
comes out of your bodies that defiles you"? Fundie Christians have
been like Jews in this respect and at the behest of their women putting
us all on the cross for drugs. It's time for them to start being
Christians and not Jews.

It tells you that these people are "followers" instead of independent
thinkers. It tells you that some preacher will quote from the "Holy Bible"
that they are not responsible for their actions and behavior because Jesus
will forgive your sins. It tells you that adults do not obey the speed
limits on the road and expect their children to obey the law live in
confusion.
