The Salvation Army responds to disaster in South Asia
TORONTO, Dec. 27 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army is appealing for
financial
donations as it provides relief to the victims of the massive
earthquake in
Indonesia that triggered tsunami waves in the region and caused
widespread
damage and loss of life. The earthquake had a magnitude of 9.0, making
it the
biggest in 40 years and the fifth strongest since 1900.
Salvation Army personnel are based in many of the impacted areas
and,
right from the beginning, relief teams have been in the forefront of
offering
aid and relief to the people suffering from this unexpected tragedy.
Salvation
Army volunteers have been feeding more than 1,200 people in the
Kanyakumari
and Muttom areas and many Army facilities are being used to provide
feeding
sites and emergency shelter through the region. Teams of local
Salvation Army
assessment personnel have been dispatched to assist the government and
other
agencies in their efforts to determine the most pressing needs of the
affected
communities.
The coverage of this disaster is widespread and many countries have
been
impacted. As the full extent of the disaster continues to be revealed,
The
Salvation Army is putting out an urgent appeal for funds with which we
can
continue to serve the victims of this devastating tragedy.
Please support The Salvation Army's work in South Asia. Financial
contributions can be made by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) or by

Israel also sent a team of doctors from Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem
Hospital to
Sri Lanka, where more than 12,000 people were killed.
The Israeli doctors, who are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka later Monday,
specialize in rescue operations, trauma and pediatrics.
"We will try to use our ... broad experience in dealing with terror attacks
and
rescuing masses to help in this disaster as well," said Dr. Avi Rivkind,
director of
Hadassah's trauma unit.

IN the early '90's I wnet to Rwand with a medical team, and I was amazed at
the efficiency and speed of set-up and delivery of care by the Israeli team.
They certainly beat out the rest of us from other countries. It was simply
amazing. I was vey proud to get to know many of them and have visited them
at facilities in Israel since. Norma

What?

I was trying to donate food to feed thousands of people. the Salvation Army
was begging for food from companies, but they refused all foods from Israel.
even if they were here in America.
the Salvation Army will not accept food donations or any other product that
has origins in Israel
ask them yourself ***** clown
I sent the offers straight to Washington DC. and though their web site. and
the answer I got was Sorry we do not take food from Israel..

TORONTO, Dec. 27 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army is appealing for
financial
donations as it provides relief to the victims of the massive
earthquake in
Indonesia that triggered tsunami waves in the region and caused
widespread
damage and loss of life. The earthquake had a magnitude of 9.0,

sites and emergency shelter through the region. Teams of local
Salvation Army
assessment personnel have been dispatched to assist the government

TORONTO, Dec. 27 /CNW/ - The Salvation Army is appealing for
financial
donations as it provides relief to the victims of the massive
earthquake in
Indonesia that triggered tsunami waves in the region and
caused
widespread
damage and loss of life. The earthquake had a magnitude of
9.0,
making
it the
biggest in 40 years and the fifth strongest since 1900.
Salvation Army personnel are based in many of the impacted
areas
and,
right from the beginning, relief teams have been in the
forefront
of
offering
aid and relief to the people suffering from this unexpected
tragedy.
Salvation
Army volunteers have been feeding more than 1,200 people in
the
Kanyakumari
and Muttom areas and many Army facilities are being used to
provide
feeding
sites and emergency shelter through the region. Teams of
local
Salvation Army
assessment personnel have been dispatched to assist the
government
and
other
agencies in their efforts to determine the most pressing
needs
of
the
affected
communities.
The coverage of this disaster is widespread and many
countries
have
been
impacted. As the full extent of the disaster continues to be
revealed,
The
Salvation Army is putting out an urgent appeal for funds with
which
we
can
continue to serve the victims of this devastating tragedy.
