"Tricky" ***** Cheney Vs. John "Silky Pony" Edwards |
Here's what I think of the veep debate: John Edwards is a wildly
gesticulating, empty-headed, pretty-boy trial lawyer. Edwards is doing his
best to convey that impression tonight. His excessive blinking alone is
enough to make him seem unserious.
Cheney, by contrast, has the cliched "gravitas." His dull tone is an
excellent counterpoint to Edwards' light-weightness.
Edwards unfortunately has to play the role of attack dog and, thus, is doing
exactly what the Bush campaign wants him to do - be a pessimist. This makes
***** Cheney look cheerful! Cheney wins this debate.
It won't have much effect on the polls, because most people aren't watching,
and those who're watching don't vote for Vice President. However, this debate
will at least stanch the Bush campaign's drip-drip-drip bleeding in the polls
and set the president up nicely to make a comeback on Friday.

I'm not surprised that you think htis. Did you write this at 8:00 and then
wait until the debate was over to hit send?
I say this because most independent view\ers don;t agree - they sco\re this
as a draw. Cheney didn;t answer the question, and disappointed those looking
for more than another attack speech. Edwards gave substance, but his
enthusiasm caused him to look a little unstatemanlike.
Watching CNN's real-time analysis after the deabte was revealing. This was
the audience reaction metering, where people pressed buttons to show their
reaction to what the candidates were saying.
You know what got the highest positive reaction for Cheney? His statments
that gays shouold be free to determine their own futures witout government
interference, You know what Edwards did best at? Tlaking about ending
otrsourcing of jobs.
This has to be bad news for Bush. Cheney's _best_ reaction was when he
defied Bush policy. Edwards' best reaction was a core Kerry economic issue.

Cheney just kicked the ***** out of Edwards. Edwards looks like an
inexperienced yokel who want on the job training.

Interesting take. Are we watching the same debate? (It is still going
on.) Chaney looks and sounds like a befuddled old man. Kind of like Bush
looked last Thursday.

As a NC I hate to say it but Edwards reminds me so much of the feather
weight, Dan Quail, without his foot in his mouth.

Except for the "trial lawyer" part you could be describing yourself.

Today, the polls are calling it a draw. It looks like you missed the target.

I pretty much saw it the same way. Cheney was fairly unflappable and
steady. Edwards best moments were on the domestic portion, although he
reminded me of a little chihuahua that is constantly snapping away at
your feet. You just want to whack him with a newspaper. Having said
that this debate doesn't matter. People aren't particularly interested
in the VP. If only Bush could debate like Cheney.....

www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/10/05/opinion/polls/main647648.shtml
"John Edwards continued the Democratic ticket’s winning streak in
Tuesday night's vice presidential debate. He was judged the winner – at
least among uncommitted voters who watched the debate, just as John
Kerry was last week.
Immediately after the debate, CBS News interviewed a nationally
representative sample of 178 debate watchers assembled by Knowledge
Networks who were "uncommitted voters" – voters who are either undecided
about who to vote for or who have a preference but say they could still
change their minds.
Forty-one percent of these uncommitted debate watchers said Edwards won
the debate tonight. Twenty-eight percent said Cheney won. Thirty-one
percent thought it was a tie."
