What the prof is saying is that we should have wiped the place out. Johnnson's
war in Vietnam was the same deal - clean it out.
Hopefully, we as Americans, and the next President, will understand and draft
you as a ground pounder.

Wipe the place out!! Is this our good Catholic priest-fellating
spiritually pure Duke suggesting that Jesus would approve of "wiping
the place out"? And I thought you worship the "Prince of Peace".
<snicker> Your thought-fuhrer in the Vatican is calling for peace,
not for "wiping the place out".
And who exactly are we supposed to wipe out? Most of our
struggle is not against the al-quaeda groups but against Shia and
Sunni militias who don't particularly want to fight with us, but just
want us out of the way so they can kill each other. Should we kill
all the Shias and Sunnis in order to protect them from each other?
That wouldn't make much sense.
Hopefully, we as Americans, and the next President, will understand and draft
you as a ground pounder.

I didn't say "wipe" the place out. I said "clean" the place out.

After these two wars, we should have put massive boots on the ground and cleaned
house. Hopefully the third time is a charm and we will learn what to do next
time.

Yeah - a lot of the kids serving in Iraq today have already served, too.
And now they are being forced to serve again, and again, and again.
Meanwhile - self-styled pro-war types continue to cower in the rear.

That's what happens in the military, and we were ALL subject to that.
During Desert Storm, they did hold a few back from retirement. After the
war, a lot of us were allowed out early due to the cut backs.
It's a risk we all took, we all knew what we were doing when we raised our
hands and swore in.
It's just like what I do right now, with Corrections. I know that each time
I walk through those gates, there is a chance I will not be walking back
out.
So what am I supposed to do if something goes wrong? Whine about it?
I don't like it any more than anyone else does, and I certainly don't like
to see our troops killed. But they are doing their job, they are fighting
for a reason, and like any cop, fireman, correctional officer...or anyone
else that puts their lives on the line each and every day...they knew the
risk when signing up.

No - when I served, we were all serving voluntarily.
But yeah - things have changed since then.

Regardless of what you or I might say,
Neither one of us *really* believes this war is worth fighting.
If we did, we'd both be out there fighting it.
But You and I are smarter than that - aren't we?

Yes, things have changed. And during war time, what hasn't changed is the
fact that a military member can be denied leaving at the end of his or her
term.

Actually, that's not true.
I know you IRL - and you never served. You wrote bad checks enough to
get a felony, and now you can't even *vote* - much less enlist.
