Vatican Prefers Chastity to Condoms |
Whatever your personal feelings towards the RCC, no one can argue;
Chastity is the only fool-proof method of prevention.

Vatican Prefers Chastity to Condoms
VATICAN CITY - The Vatican repeated its opposition to using condoms as
a way to fight AIDS, saying Wednesday that chastity was the best way to
prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
Monsignor Javier Lozano Barragan, president of the Pontifical Council
for Health Workers, acknowledged that to some, the Vatican position may
sound "ridiculous in the society in which we live."
But he said there was only one way to prevent AIDS and the HIV virus
from spreading. "We say that prevention ... is called chastity."

Whatever your personal feelings towards the RCC, no one can argue;
Chastity is the only fool-proof method of prevention.
Except on a realistic plane of existence, it is a failed phylosophy.
A 2,000 year old religion with over a billion living members united under a
single head. I wonder if you can name a few other such failures.
Other than giving you someplace to kill an hour on a Sunday morning,
what use is that to you?

They may have a billion or more living members, but I doubt that even half
of them attend church on a regular basis. Our local parish was on the news
just the other day talking about the apathy of the membership of his church.

No, actually it isn't. It's just not practiced. If it is practiced, it
can't fail. It's the only full proof method of avoiding STD and/or an
unwanted pregnancy.
However, I do agree with teaching safe sex practice such as taking
birth control pill and using condoms. I see no reason to teach both
methods; however, the best person(s) to teach children are the parents.
Sadly, too many parents don't take the time to talk to their children.
Just talking to them one time isn't enough either, children need to be
reminded.

The way I read your statement was if it meant the act of chastity is a
failure, which is why I said what I said. The act itself, if
practiced, can not fail. While most people will not practice it, just
due to human nature, some will. Which is why I support the teaching of
all methods and not just one.

A phylosophy isn't an act, more of a school of thought. Over all, the
phylosophy of chastity has failed, although a number of individuals have
practiced it to one level of success or another.

Well, certainly no pregnancy, but some STD's, including HIV, Syphlis, and a
few others can be passed by means other than sexual contact.

It would probably be healthier, but it's not likely to happen. I did once
almost lose a business deal over that though. I was in the bathroom using
the urinal just prior to a business meeting, I owned a medium sized IT/MIS
Consulting firm and was in Southfield, Michigan to iron out the final
details with People Soft to become a regional vendor for their software.
Anyway this was before I retired and let my sons run things. So a guy that
I'd never seen before comes in and uses the urinal a few stalls down. I
finish up and go to the sink to wash my hands and he finishes up and just
leaves the bathroom without washing his hands. I thought something like,
"Man, what a nasty fellow!" and didn't give it much more thought. That was
until about 15 minutes later when the meeting was starting and the guy was
introduced to me as the VP of Midwest Regional Vendor Relations, and he
stuck his hand out for me to shake it. I did shake his hand, but apparently
I wasn't very good at hiding the disgust I felt and it was apparent to him.
That and I guess I hesitated a bit too long. I'm not a compulsive
handwasher, or fanatical (Felix Unger type) about cleanliness, but not
washing your hands after using the bathroom is just plain nasty. Anyway,
all through the meeting I had to remember not to touch my face (I tend to
rub my eyes a lot in the spring due to allergies) until I could get to the
bathroom and wash my hands again.
But sticking to the issue, STD's, HIV, syphils are most easily
transmitted by sexual contact. Your point is still valid.
