Was the firing of Imus the right thing to do? |
Sure, we all agree what Imus said was absolutely wrong. He deserved to be
suspended for it, without a doubt. But fired?
Was Rosey ODonald fired when she offended Asians?
The Rev. Sharpton and Jackson, both guilty of saying outrageous things,
including racist comments...were they yanked off the radio or lost their
jobs?
Was the firing of Imus the best thing to do?

I don't own the network he worked for. If his show lost most or all of
its advertisers, what would you do?

Who do they work for? Did they lose the advertising base their employer
relies on to pay the bills and salaries?
Was the firing of Imus the best thing to do?
Was it a moral or an economic decision? That's the free market, baby.

One poll taken yesterday on MSNBC showed more than 50% thought that they
over-reacted. They did in my opinion. A lengthy suspension was definetely
in order..but firing? No, that's going to far.
The show "The View"...do they not have sponsors? Did you see the Rev. Al
Sharpton or Jesse Jackson out there on the streets demanding Rosey be fired
when she publicly insulted Asian people? Nope, you did not.
Face the FACTS...Sharpton and Jackson are probably two of the biggest
hypocrites walking the streets..who can't even walk their own talk.

I agree. So what. They don't work for Imus' employer. It's not my
call, not your call. I've never said I thought he should be fired. I've
said his employer is legally and morally entitled to make that call based
on their assessment of his effect on their profits. That's the free

I wouldn'ta fired him or suspended him.
I do not bow to complianers that easily.
I woulda let him go back on and watch my network ratings skyrocket.
The longer it goes without him wherever he was the less likely they will be
able to milk this one for all they can get from it, imo.

Well, if you have about $13,000,000,000 lying around with nothing
better to do, then you can buy up controlling interest in CBS and
re-hire Imus.

Imus was due to any financial losses.
They over-reacted..period. Due to two hypocrites who bully people
around. Hypocrites who can't walk their own talk. One of those
hypocrites who referred to Jews as "Hymies" in 1984.
Another one who has refered to white men as whitey.
Meanwhile you got people like Rosie O'Donnell who insulted Asians, all
she had to do was apologize and the world forgave her.
We have black people, who refer to themselves as "niggers" and
"bitches" and "hos".
We have had people say far worse things on radio...and yet, the world
goes on. Imus says something stupid, yes I agree it was stupid, and
Sharpton and Jackson come after him and want him ruined.
The reason I don't respect Jackson and Sharpton...is because like you,
they are lying hypocrites who don't walk their own talk.

I don't own the network he worked for. If his show lost most or all of
its advertisers, what would you do?
Keep on showing his program to give him an opportunity to clear up the
dispute via equal time?
Not bow to the witches of madison avenue?
Honor his Free Speech rights?
Watch the ratigns for his show skyrocket and see new advertisers come in
to
advertise to the huge audience that would be watching his show?
Here's one you'd never think of: maybe he'll do a Howard Stern and go to
satellite radio (Sirius, XM, whatever)?
Who knows?
Maybe he'll get an attorney with brains and file suit in a court that will
honor his rights at law and win a wrongful termination suit against his
former employer.

Any idiot such as you would want the people to think that was the reason he
was fired, you criminal anti-constitutionalist scum.
Too bad the firing and the excuse are shitforbrains that anyone can detect,
huh?

What a joke.
The cowardice of the assholes in charge as they transgress the rights of

Was Rosey ODonald fired when she offended Asians?

Did they lose their NAACP, raced-based lobbyist support?
He lost *my* support. I wouldn't listen to him. If the network fears
enough people react like I do, they have to pull his show and fill the
airtime with someone who will attract advertisers. Any show that can't
attract advertising will die.
Was the firing of Imus the best thing to do?
Was it a moral or an economic decision?
Seems like they went against their ability to garner ratings by firing
him.
That's their call.
That's the free market, baby.
You sure cancelling a show that people wanted to watch is free market?
People might want to watch, but advertises foot the bills. If people

advertisers don't want their brands associated with a particular host,

I wonder what law Mr. Imus actually violated?
Not bow to the witches of madison avenue?
Imus shot off his mouth.
He does a talk show. Didn't you notice that talk show hosts run their
mouths?
If he gets support, he'll get hired elsewhere.
What if he doesn't want to do another show?
That's the free market, baby!
The free market actually is more of a supply and demand thing without
prejudiced market controllers affecting it after they get their panties in a
wad.
Honor his Free Speech rights?
Did the United States Government silence him? No.
The US Government is here to ensure that his rights are not violated.
Watch the ratings for his show skyrocket and see new advertisers come
in to advertise to the huge audience that would be watching his show?
Maybe yes, maybe no.
So, how did his employer find out if the maybe woulda been a 'yes' by
cancelling him?
Rash act by his employers tells me they did the wrong thing.
The owners of the equipment, his emplyers make the call.
What legal cause was there to terminate him?
They made what they thought was the best business decision. For
better or worse, it's their call based on their assesment of the
situation.
Hmm. You sure they didn't want him becoming more popular after the remarks
in question so some "nappy ho", (Oh, wow, a catch phrase begun on Mr. Imus'
show) or gay panty waste could take his place?
Was Rosey ODonald fired when she offended Asians?
The Rev. Sharpton and Jackson, both guilty of saying outrageous

Who do they work for?
NAACP, race based propgandists?
You mean you don't know? You think somebody (you don't know who) should
fire Sharpton and Jackson? Do they even have employers?
How would I know?
The NAACP, a race based organization, which in itself is illegal, according
to Civil Rights Law, doesn't actually publish such information about who
they are paying that much.
Did they lose the advertising base their employer
relies on to pay the bills and salaries?
Did they lose their NAACP, raced-based lobbyist support?
He lost *my* support. I wouldn't listen to him. If the network fears

You watched him, or are you only issuing disgruntledness after one show did
not meet up to your preferred specch code?
I personally think this issue could have been handled better.
Was the firing of Imus the best thing to do?
Was it a moral or an economic decision?
Seems like they went against their ability to garner ratings by firing
him.
That's their call.
Yeah, and we will see what happens in the future.
They could lose more money than they woulda made by keeping him, at least in
the short term.
That's the free market, baby.
You sure cancelling a show that people wanted to watch is free market?
People might want to watch, but advertises foot the bills. If people
don;t want to watch, the show dies. If advertisers don't want to
advertise to the kind of person who watches a show, the show dies. If
advertisers don't want their brands associated with a particular host,

True enough in a real free market system.
There is a lot of competition in his time slot in the a.m.
But, did you not know that those satellite and cable subscription rates are
what fund so many of those shows now?
Didn't you know that advertisers get free ads on shows the corporate
'non-free marketers' like to award freebies to?
Didn't you know that the subscribers are footing the bill rather than
advertisers to watch much of cable/satellite programming?
I should know since I have owned stock in Directv for so long, which doesn't
return much of anything to the stockholders even though they rake in
billions in the subscriber revenue they use to pay their special 'nappy hos'
and gays to be on their ***** shows.
It's an econimic decision, made by the people who own the resoures.
*****.
In roevwadedom, there is very little that has been a real 'economic'
decision since 1973.
Free market, baby!
Bound market, idiot.
You want socialized broadcast media?
If you are pro-choice that is what you are supporting now.
Archie Bunker called it 'pinko, commie, fag' marketing.
It might be good, might be bad.
I would agree with that.
It could only be as good as what the programmers make it, imo.
The BBC and PBS are example, both do some fine work,
but I'm not sure I want *all* broadcast media run that way.
I agree that there are some decent shows on the BBC, and on PBS.

Not profitable. They might have kept him on board, if all of his
sponsors hadn't pulled out. CBS Radio was making about $15 million
from his show; it would have probably cost them $5 million or more to
continue airing his show without sponsors. And his show would have
been nothing but him, because all his big name, regular guests would
have flown the coop too.

They have not violated his free speech rights. He can talk all he

Yep. The vendor (CBS Radio) is free to market - sell - any legal
thing they want to and can't be forced to sell (air) any legal thing
they do not want to.

That seems silly. Of course they *had* to walk. To be seen as in any
way ambivalent towards racism is the kiss of death; they would lose
public goodwill, their products would no longer be purchased.
Of course, some sponsors sell products that are not of a highly
discretionary nature, some sponsors sell almost exclusively to markets
not overly sensitive to racism. But what corporations do is make
business decisions, not emotional ones.

That seems silly.
only you you don't believe in a free market.
Of course they *had* to walk.
on the contrary, they did not have to do anything. in fact, what they
did is likely to harm their prime interests.
To be seen as in any way ambivalent towards racism is the kiss of
death; they would lose public goodwill, their products would no
longer be purchased.
that is what is happening now.
People are refusing to buy products because their manufacturers pulled
ads from Imus' show? Can you back that claim, or did you pull that out
of your *****?
He isn't going to back that claim, he hasn't backed a claim since he has
poisoned this newsgroup.
I am still waiting to see though, if CBS fired Imus because sponsors pulled
their ads.

He isn't going to back that claim
actually, he already has in two separate posts listing sites
encouraging such a boycott.
you already showed readers your character by lying about me in
response to someone else rather than to em directly.
now show your character in dealing with your lie.
or do what i and everyone who knows you expects, run away.
