Deserting your country is one thing, leaving it to avoid going into
active service is another. How can disagreeing with your government
label you as a traitor? Surely you are not completely satisfied with
EVERY single choice the government has ever made?
To follow on from what Ray Fishcher says, imagine I'm German and living
in Nazi Germany. I'm not Jewish but I have done business with them and
have many friends that are. There's a man called Hitler who runs the
country (in this instance, Hitler = the government). As a nation, we're
having an economical struggle. The government blames our problems on
the Jews and starts murdering them. I disagree with this and leave the
country, not wanting to be involved in such gross activities, either
directly or indirectly.
Am I a traitor?
I love my country, but I don't always love what the leaders do with it.

Consider that not all Germans who disagreed with Hitler would have left the
country. They stayed, knowing that a leader they don't like can eventually
be removed out of office. Count also the number of *conscripts* into
Hitler's army. You can't claim they volunteered to fight Hitler's cause.
Many conscripts were plucked off the fields under gun point without even
given the opportunity to say "goodbye" to their families (as happened to
members of my own family). Yet, all these disagreeing citizens, and all the
conscripts are lambasted and tarred with the same Nazi Jew-killer brush.
They're all murderous thugs who deserve the world's revulsion!
As for the Jews, you'd think they would never want to step on German soil
again. But that is not the case...many who fled from Germany eventually
returned. Many remained in hiding within Germany 'cause it was their
country and they loved the land, too. A Jewish friend of my parents
actually spent his time hiding within various whorehouses in Hamburg. The
German prostitutes took good care of this man for years! They just
shuffled him around between themselves and the Nazis couldn't catch him.
