Wearing 'purity rings' is banned at girls' school |
This ban of 'purity rings' is not only an attack on Christianity, but
morality and decency itself. Christian women value their virtue and use
these rings as an expression of chastity. Decency is an attribute that
should be proudly put foward; the ban should be lifted.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=391325&in_page_id=1770&in_a_source=
A school has banned Christian pupils from wearing rings that symbolise the
teenagers' belief in chastity until marriage.
Youngsters have been ordered to remove the 'purity rings' because they
contravene the school's uniform policy.
Millais School, an all-girls' comprehensive in West Sussex, has a strict 'no
jewellery' rule, allowing only small stud earrings.
But the girls' families argue that that the rings - simple bands of silver
given to youngsters who complete an evangelical church course preaching
abstinence - hold genuine religious significance.
Parents also point out that the school allows Muslim and Sikh pupils to wear
headscarves or kara bracelets as a means of religious expression.

Silly christians...... always thinking they deserve SPECIAL rights. Then
when they are made to conform to the exact same rules as everyone else, they
cry persecution.

School should be a place to get an education, not a place where some snotty
kids can flaunt their personal stance on any particular subject. If these
kids haven't completed an education yet, how valid is their opinion? They go
to school to learn, not to teach.
If they care more about religion than education, they should go to church
and become nuns and monks, let's see how much freedom of expression they'll
find there.
Off with the scarves, rings, crucifixes, stars, and go do your homework! Or,
bend over and take it like an altar boy!

Don't the Fundies LOVE to cry "discrimination" as well as "persecution!"
Also, why aren't the Christian boys wearing these rings? Think about that
IF you are able, which I seriously doubt a Fundies ability to evaluate
issues with open eyes and truth.

Now I did read of some SF thing where they let Sikhs wear scabbards to
school.
If the complaint is so loud that you must allow some persons to do what they
want to do, then why is it a crime to allow others to do what they wish to
do, even if they do not complain as loud?
What was the real problem that these purity rings caused other than a
violation of a dress code that has already been compromised for what many

I guess they will wear purity scarves next or bracelets.

Stud earrings are much less likely to be dangerous than are rings. If your
ring gets caught on a piece of machinery, it can very easily break your
finger, or worse. If your stud earring gets close enough to get caught, Very
likely you were close enough to the machinery to cut your ear already,
regardless of the jewellery. We have the same restrictions at my work, even
though we are usually not working with machinery capable of causing such
damage.
Not
bigots like you.
A ban on jewelry would not allow even earrings to be worn.
A ban for safety reasons would take into account the fact that stud earrings
are much less of a safety risk than are rings. If you will notice, stud
earrings are the only type allowed, meaning that hoops, and dangly earring
are banned as well.

No problem, since the other students are required to remove their bracelets
in such areas.
Equal protection is the US way of doing it AFAIK.
Then comes the consideration of PE when someone accidentally is injured by
coming into contact with a stud earring or elsewhere even.
But, whatever the case, equal treatment seems to be the method to quell the
persecution cry you mention below.
I'm against crying "persecution!" where there is none.

exemptions and handling of stud earrings and bracelets.

Draconian?
Hey, not trying to be hard on you there.

Just an observation that something better could be arranged for those
'Christians' you think are so unruly.

The rings are not a religious requirement. Kara bracelets are a requirement
of sihkism.
As well, bracelets can be covered by long sleeves which can prevent them
from being visible and make it harder for them to be a safety risk, while
rings cannot.
Equal protection is the US way of doing it AFAIK.
Then comes the consideration of PE when someone accidentally is injured by
coming into contact with a stud earring or elsewhere even.
How many cases have you seen of a person being injured by coming into
contact with a stud earring, other than in malicious attacks?
But, whatever the case, equal treatment seems to be the method to quell
the persecution cry you mention below.
Hey, I'm not the one stating that all rings being banned = persecution over
one group who chose to wear rings that were not required of them in any way
whatsoever.
I'm against crying "persecution!" where there is none.
Many don't see it that way though, especially in light of the other
exemptions and handling of stud earrings and bracelets.
I've explained why stud earrings would be allowed, as well as kara
bracelets.
What does that make me?
Unobservant?

How about "able to understand the safety reasons for banning one type of
jewelry and not another"?
