What WOULD happen if abortion was outlawed in the USA? |
If someone wants an idea of what would happen if abortion was made illegal
in the USA, take a look at the DEA! Now, you anti-choicers tell me, should
reproductive choices be controlled by governmental control freaks just as
drug use is controlled by governmental control freaks?
I don't care what religion or moral background they come from, anyone who
wants to make abortion illegal (and thus force women into involuntary
servitude) cannot see that doing so will turn the country into a police
state.
So, anti-choicers, do you want to live in a police state that is any worse
than what it is now?
You'll all have the same answer, no doubt - NO SIR!
Just IMAGINE, the TENS and TENS and TENS of THOUSANDS of "pregnancy
enforcement agents" suddenly being employed by this all-too-powerful
government bureaucracy to monitor and control pregnant women and forcing
them to give birth against their will! The name of this bureaucracy - we'll
call it the Childbirth Enforcement Administration (CBEA) and we'll initially
employ some 100,000 people to ensure that the strict abortion laws are
followed with severe penalties for those who violate the new penal codes.
Just imagine the headlines:
"CBEA arrests 3 doctors and 25 women at Houston abortion clinics"...
"Three doctors and twenty five women were arrested by CBEA agents as they
swooped on two abortion operations in Houston, Texas, this morning following
an investigation of three doctors suspected of running an abortion
operation. The CBEA had been monitoring the telephone calls of one doctor at
his medical practice..."
"CBEA shuts down 16 abortion clinics in Kansas"
"Sixteen abortion operations have been closed down after a CBEA
investigation revealed several doctors were involved in abortion practices,
several other doctors are still under investigation by CBEA for allegedly
performing abortions in Missouri..."
"Doctor sentenced to 50 years' for performing abortions in Los Angeles"
"A prominent doctor has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for
performing abortions at a makeshift clinic in Los Angeles, California. A
jury convicted Dr Joe Bloggs on 17 counts of performing abortions and he has
been ordered to serve a total of 50 years in prison. CBEA had been
investigating Dr Bloggs for several months..."
I can see it...Just think, anti-choicers and pro-choicers alike, thank GOD
you don't live in that sort of dictatorship!

i doubt that making abortion illegal in some ultra right geographies
will turn the country into a police state, although anti-choicers
certainly wouldn't mind a police state as evidenced by their silence
regarding mr ashcroft's illegal actions.
i think access to abortion will always be available in all but the most
illiterate areas.

I don't think it would become a police state, because it wasn't before 1973.
What would be more likely to happen is that abortion would fall into the
hands of organised crime syndicates such as the Mafia. It's already
possible to buy RU486 online and 'abortion barons' would stockpile it and
sell it on street corners in the same way that illegal drugs are sold today.
For later abortions they could set up cosmetic surgery clinics, dentists'
surgeries etc - no-one would know what was going on inside these places.
Whether abortion is legal or not, if women are determined to abort, then
abort they will, and the risks to them will be less than they were prior to
1973, because so much more is known about the procedure.
I would like to know what would happen, were abortion to be made illegal if,
say about a month after that date, on a specified day, all the pro-choice
women in the country 'gave themselves up' to the police claiming that they'd
had an abortion within the previous week, whether they had or not. (None of
them, of course, would know the name of the doctor who'd performed the
procedure.) Who could prove they hadn't? Imagine the chaos of having
millions of 'criminals' to deal with on the same day.
