Well, that is just plain wrong. The more you love birds, the more you
want to know about them. You are saying that intellectual curiosity kills
any sense of beauty. I know many intellectually competent people who
would disagree. It is only the intellectually incompetent and lazy who
try to console themselves with crap like that.

Second. Strictly speaking the quote doesn't have anything per se to do
with atheism. But as you say it was very well put.

In a sense it is. Some christians seem to hate knowledge and learning,
it is eating the apple to many of them. So they try to present
knowledge as some kind of loss of innocence. Science of course is
viewed as the work of the devil. It seems odd to me that Christians
think that way, as I would have though they would have wanted
to learnr as much as they could about the wonders of their supposed
gods creation. In a sense it could be regarded asa blasphemy to
turn your backs on what he supposedly did for us. To Christians here
in the UK evolution is one of his wonders and the more they learn the
more it is revealed.
We recently had a nightly live series called "Autumnwatch". It
was presented by Bill Oddie who is an amateur expert on birds
and he was showing pictures of Hooper Swans arriving from Iceland
on their annual migration. His sheer enthusiasm and love for these
animals showed no lack of innocence in him and he conveyed his
enthusiam and sense of fun to us as well.
We know how Christians view sex as evil and nasty and to them
a child has only to see a breast and straight away the poor dears
have been corrupted beyond hope. Sex is lovely, it is cuddly,
it is fun and not in the least bit corrupted. They are the one who
corrupt and poison sex by making it furtive and not to be
talked about as if it is somehow unhealthy leaving the poor
kids repressed. It is hardly any wonder that Catholic priest
molest kids when they have tried to supress their natural
- god given? - instincts.
From a Scottish Island we had an expert on deer showing their mating
rituals and the fierce territorial battles they have. For a bit of
fun, they scored each stag to see who was the champion. Their
mating is quite interesting, very tender, consensual, and very short.
The final sudden 'shove' before the stag dismounts was quite err what
shall I say... err no better not :-)
I just loved the way one strutted around his harem after a battle
won. That seems to be the way to win the ladies in Deerland :-)
Great photography as ever.
