If God did exist, it would be necessary for us to kill him.

It depends, as Bill Clinton might say, on what you mean by 'is'.
If, by 'is' you mean that God is a concept that some people take on trust,
and that God has been explicitly defined by some people and asserted to
exist, then, yes, there is a God. He exists in the imaginations of a number
of people and there is a point to discussing whether or not, in actual
reality, he exists.
The fact that, in order to assert his existence, one has to extend the
definition of reality beyond the infinite cosmos of material reality is, of
itself, conclusive proof that such a God does not exist as far as reality is
concerned.
As far as the imagination is concerned, anything is possible, which makes
the imagination an unreliable source of information.

Hmmm...
If an atheist is someone who lacks beleif in God, then if there were no
concept of God, there would be no believers and everyone would be an
atheist.
Of course the word atheist wouldn't exist, but they would still comply
with the definition as we know it.
Therefore, I think Chesterton was just plain wrong.

If there were no Olympian gods, there would be no atheists, Christians,
Mahommedans, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc.
So, Jupiter, Hera, Apollo, Athena and all the other Greek gods exist!

Se ne estus olimpiaj dioj, ne estus ateistoj, kristanoj, mahometanoj,
judoj, hindoj, budaistoj, sikoj, k.t.p.
Do, Jupitro, Herao, Apolono, Ateno kaj chiuj aliaj grekaj dioj ekzistas!
