Atheists feel unwelcome in Colorado
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (AP) -- Gov. Bill Owens and Mayor Lionel Rivera
declined to extend an official welcome to the Atheist Alliance for its national
convention this weekend, and attendees said they felt slighted.
Rivera said he thinks the group's request for a letter of welcome was the only
one he had turned down in his 11 months in office. Terry Sullivan of the
Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau said the governor rarely
declines requests for welcome letters.
Rivera said he refused to offer a letter of welcome in part because the group
scheduled its convention during Easter and just days after Passover.
"Anybody in the United States is welcome to express their beliefs and opinions,"
Rivera said. "I just think it's bad timing."
Owens spokeswoman Kristen Hubbell said welcome letters are not granted
automatically.
"Just because an organization sends in a request to have a letter from the
governor, that doesn't mean a governor has to endorse a particular
organization," she said.
Rebecca Hale, a member of Freethinkers of Colorado Springs, which is affiliated
with the alliance, said she was offended by the politicians' decisions.
"I'm disappointed that the state of Colorado has this kind of leadership that is
looking to exclude people," Hale said.
The group describes itself as an organization of independent religion-free
groups and individuals that aims to help development of democratic, atheistic
societies and promote education on secular issues.

Your bigoted reaction was expected. For your information,
the bigotry of the governor and mayor was noted by several
newspapers who sent reporters who wrote nice articles about
the conference. Also, the Vice Mayor showed up at the
conference on his own to welcome the attendees, since he
felt that the way they were treated was wrong and that they were
entitled to freedom of speech like everyone else in the US.
Sorry to disappont you, Ted (NOT!), but not everyone is a

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. That's what the First Amendment
is *supposed* to be about: protections extending not only to the speech
you like, but the speech you loathe. And here, I thought you (in stark
contrast to Ted Kaldis) understood that.
Just because one would defend their 1st Amend. rights doesn't mean one has

I'm having a little trouble with your equation between NAMBLA and an
otherwise innocuous group of atheists. It starts with trivial slights
such as refusing to extending official welcomes, and denying otherwise
deserving people law licenses, but invariably ends with dehumanization
of the untermenschen. It happened in Christian Germany -- which Osama
and his band cannot reasonably hope to outdo. And it will happen here
if we as a people meekly consent to it.

Carter's Crusade
Jimmy Carter explains how the Christian right isn't Christian at all.
http://www.prospect.org/web/page.ww?section=root&name=ViewWeb&articleId=7572
[pertinent excerpt follows]
There is an element of fundamentalism involved, which involves the
belief on the part of a human being that [his or her] own concept of God
is the proper one. And since [he or she has] the proper concept of God,
[he or she is] particularly blessed and singled out for special
consideration above and beyond those who disagree with [him or her].
Secondly, anyone who does disagree with [him or her], since [he or she
is] harnessed to God in a unique way, then, by definition, must be
wrong. And the second step is if you are in disagreement with [his or
her] concept of the way to worship, even among the Christian community,
is that you are inferior to [him or her]. And then the ultimate
progression of that is that you’re not only different and wrong and
inferior but in some ways you are subhuman. So there’s a loss of concern
even for the death of those who disagree. And this takes fundamentalism
to the extreme. This is an element of the fundamentalist cause in this
country. If you are a wealthy white man, then you are naturally inclined
to think that the poor are inferior and don’t deserve your first
consideration. If you are a wealthy white man, then you also take on the
proposition that women are inherently inferior. This builds up a sense
of prejudice and alienation that permeates the Christian right during
these days.

No one censored their speech; all the protections are in place. They weren't
denied lodging, accommodations, a public forum or anything else that would
tend to stifle their political position.
The governor declined to take a position, officially, about a religious
question. Atheists are a religious group, in that their entire position is a
spiritual matter. He doesn't show up when the Southern Baptists come to town
either. Or people on either side of the abortion question.
While we are honor bound to tolerate them, none of us are required to make
them welcome. They've either got a viable position on their own, or they
don't.
I'm having a little trouble with your equation between NAMBLA and an
otherwise innocuous group of atheists.
One is limited in comparisons of degenerate social positions- he doesn't
welcome the flat earthers either, or the Spanish Inquisition.
It starts with trivial slights
such as refusing to extending official welcomes, and denying otherwise
deserving people law licenses, but invariably ends with dehumanization
of the untermenschen.
I have no trouble with degenerates getting law licenses- seems a requirement
to me, and I don't know why they denied it you.
It happened in Christian Germany -- which Osama
and his band cannot reasonably hope to outdo. And it will happen here

Hitler was a pagan- the stated purpose was to wipe all vestiges of
Christianity from German soil. There were more Christians killed in the
Holocaust than any other group. It is easier to get shot or burned out by
the present government as a Christian than any other domestic group in the
US.

Here's your pal Adolf in his own words you pathetic liar:
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the
Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the
work of the Lord."
"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It
points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers,
recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them
and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter."
"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have
therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not
merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out".
"For their interests [the Church's] cannot fail to coincide with ours [the
National Socialists] alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in
the world of to-day, in our fight against a Bolshevist culture, against
atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for a consciousness
of a community in our national life".
There were more Christians killed in
the Holocaust than any other group.
You really are a pathetic liar Chas, a grotesque excuse for a human
being.
Now tell us again how all 20,000,000 Soviets killed in WW2 were "christians"
....?

The Greek word for sorcery, pharmakeia (from which we get pharmacy)

What is the Bible's teaching about such use of drugs? Rev. 21:8

What are the results of drinking alcoholic beverages? Prov. 23:29-35

As far as I know, you have this one wrong too Ken. This is what I come
up with for a timeline:
6pm-11:30pm
Thursday, April 14, 30 AD
Garden of Gethsemane - Jesus waits for his arrest
1:00am-1:30am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Confrontation in Garden and Jesus' Arrest
1:30am-3:00am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Trial 1: Annas, former Jewish High Priest for 16 years - Jesus
receives initial physical abuse
Trial 2: Current Jewish High Priest, Caiaphas, and the Sanhedrin Court
- Jesus bloodied by abuse
3:00am-5:00am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Imprisonment at Caiaphas' palace
5:00am-6:00am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Trial 3: All the Jewish elders, including the High Priest, scribes and
whole Sanhedrin. They decide to ask the Roman government to kill Jesus
6:00am-7:00am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Trial 4: Hearing before Roman governor Pilate, who declares, "I find
no guilt in this man."
7:00-7:30am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Trial 5: Hearing before Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great, who
had jurisdiction over Galilee. Jesus refused to answer any questions
so Herod returned him quickly to Pilate
7:30am-8:30am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Trial 6: Pilate repeatedly tried to release Jesus but the Jewish
leaders continued to object. Pilate physically tortured and beat Jesus
beyond recognition seeking to satisfy the Jewish leaders. However the
Jews demanded that Jesus be crucified. Pilate resisted but eventually
gave the order to execute Jesus
8:30am-9:00am
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Pilate's Roman soldiers take Jesus into the court ("Praetorium") and
enjoy mockery and continued torture, including driving thorns into his
skull
9:00am-12:00noon
Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Jesus forced to carry his own cross, then actual crucifixion
12:00 noon - 3:00pm

Friday, April 15, 30 AD
Burial
Sunday, April 17, 30 AD
"Resurrection" - 1st reported appearance of Jesus as alive after
execution
Ken says it was all done by 9:00AM. The Bible says it was all done
by 3:00PM
You can take that one to the lake of fire Ken. (unless you repent)
I am going to pray that Jesus gets your attention just like He did to
Saul on the road to Damascus. I am going to pray that God will do
whatever it takes to bring you to an understanding of your need for
salvation through Christ. I am going to pray that God will soften your
hardened heart towards Him. I am going to pray that you will never
forget these words:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
I'm going to pray that you understand that kind of love.
Yes Ken, I am going to pray for you.

No, just a mentally and emotionally disturbed religious crackpot. He

Would you welcome NAMBLA to exercise their 'freedom of speech' in
your town? How about the American Islamofascist Party?
Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. That's what the First
Amendment
is *supposed* to be about: protections extending not only to the
speech
you like, but the speech you loathe.
Ken you blithering moron.
NAMBLA promotes a criminal agenda, the use of UNDERAGE boys for the
sexual gratification of adults.
Gee, and all this time I though that was the Vatican's position ...

And what makes those demented malcontents think that they should be
welcomed?
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (AP) -- Gov. Bill Owens and Mayor Lionel
Rivera declined to extend an official welcome to the Atheist Alliance for
its national convention this weekend,
Good on the governor and the mayor, then!
and attendees said they felt slighted.
My heart bleeds.
Your bigoted reaction was expected.
What "bigoted reaction"? There is no bigotry here, only lucid, forthright
thinking with clarity.
For your information, the bigotry of the governor and mayor was noted by
several newspapers
P*ss on the newspapers! I am not concerned about what those liars have to
say. For the most part, they are generally kindred spirits with the
atheists.
who sent reporters who wrote nice articles about the conference.
What did I just tell you?
Also, the Vice Mayor showed up at the conference on his own to welcome the
attendees,
He's trying to suck up to the wrong people. Next chance they get, I hope
that the upright citizens of Colorado Springs have the good sense to send him
packing.
since he felt that the way they were treated was wrong
Why should anyone give a toss about how they feel? Do they take our feelings
into account when, say, they try to have the words "under God" removed from
the Pledge? Mob of anti-social misanthropes! They impose a burden upon
society by constantly trying to tear down those institutions of it that
provide society its stability. They deserve our scorn.
and that they were entitled to freedom of speech like everyone else in the
US.
Sure, they're entitled to free speech. But I'm not obliged to listen.
Sorry to disappont you, Ted (NOT!), but not everyone is a bigot like you.
I'm no bigot.

But you are a self righteous bigoted obnoxious christian. The kind
that causes the decent people to leave the church, and in many cases
become atheist.
To others don`t let bigots like this drive you away, stay and
together we can return the teaching of Jesus to christianity. We are
allowing people like this destroy christianity.
