I find this obvious attempt to charge Bush/Cheney with trying to draft
people to be so incredibly stupid....considering that the last draft measure
up for vote was written by a DEMOCRAT.
Can't you find enough real issues to oppose Bush/Kerry on,you have to
actually make some up?

From http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030110-014110-7787r
Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., a Korean War veteran and
a strong critic of going to war with Iraq, introduced
a bill to initiate a draft because he believes the
burden of military service is borne disproportionately
by minorities. Rangel also believes if there were a
universal draft, Congress and the public would have
less of an appetite for war as it would mean endangering
their own children's lives.
Leonard Pitts Jr. - Miami Herald
Saturday, October 9, 2004
BTW, Charles Rangel voted against his own bill.
Can't you find enough real issues to oppose Bush/Kerry on,you have to
actually make some up?
He did not make it up see:
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/6/24/104815.shtml
Savvy draft-watchers, including author, radio personality
and attorney Col. Ron Ray, USMCR (Ret.), dispute the
"is not getting ready" phrase, suggesting that there
is, indeed, evidence indicating a new, heightened
urgency within the agency, which these days is
independent and no longer falls under the aegis of the
Department of Defense.

If we weren't bogged down in a needless war, we wouldn't have a military
streched so far that a possible draft would be an issue.

Even if we need another division or two, we do not need a draft. Recruiters
are meeting or exceeding their goals from volunteers. The only reason we do
not have more soldiers right now is because we are not hiring, not because
there are two few qualified applicants. As you pointed out earlier, it is
the Dems, led by Charlie Rangell who have proposing a draft. His reasoning
comes down to another social engineering experiment because he feels that
too many black kids are in the military.
Last week, I was at a government facility and had the chance to work and
talk with a number of Army soldiers (mostly PFC and SPCs). I can tell you
first hand that they are terrific folks. The typical US soldier is
competent and smart. He joined up to improve himself and embark on a
career. But not just that. There is a streak of idealism in those kids!
The young men I spoke with have a firm desire to be part of and contribute
to something larger than themselves. They have a strong desire to make the
world a better place. America produces lots of these fine kids, and they'll
volunteer if we have a need for more of them.

Army, in tough slog, hits recruiting goal
The Army did suffer setbacks in the government's fiscal 2004. The
National Guard will miss its recruiting goal of 56,000. It had signed
up only 43,827 by Aug. 31. Critics say frequent call-ups and 12-month
deployments are driving prospects away, but the Army cites the fact
that more soldiers are being kept on active duty, which means they are
not available for Guard recruiters.

I was referring to Active Duty. It's true that the guard has suffered from
extended call ups. If one were to imagnie a hypothetical draft, it would
not be for hte purpose of bringing people into the guard.

I find this obvious attempt to charge Bush/Cheney with trying to draft

And that means AWOL won't institute the draft because he's not a

Let me guess, you think evrything is going just fine in Iraq, and all

Let me guess; you can't figure out anything to charge Bush with that is

Let's do teh math shall we? 10 of teh 12 divisions are bogged down in

If you are a fellow American patriot and lover of the First Amendment, then
by these presents greetings. It is good that you seek rational and
democratic discussion of the great and urgent issues facing our nation.
Unfortunately, I think you've come to the wrong place. See the bottom of
this post for additional evidence--but this entire enormous thread is
dedicated to the display of the freshest original parts of such disruptive
anti-democratic tripe. With the witless assistance of the Bushevik trolls,
it only took a short time to build this "tower of babble".
Especially if you remember the old days of rational discussion in the
newsgroups, this triumph of noise over signal may sadden you. Hyde Park of
the world and cheap advertising are all that remain.
However, there are still alternatives. For example, there are many moderated
forums on the Internet where civil discussions and real conversations can be
found. Even better if you can build bridges to real people in the physical
world. For example, you could treat a rational RINO to a movie--like
Fahrenheit 9/11. Lots of good books still being published, or you could
write a letter to the editor for your local paper--you'll reach more real
people and have more impact than here. Or you could donate to the political
campaigns--I confess I've already made seven donations. Just remember that
big money is harming democracy, that BushCo has more money than anyone, and
that if money alone decides elections then the American republic is already
dead.
Last, but MOST important: VOTE! Your nation needs you NOW!
On the other hand, if you are a Bushevik troll, then in the immortal
floor-of-the-Senate words of the unloved ***** Cheney: "Go ***** yourself."
That mentality goes a long way towards explaining blather like this:

Churchill
(assuming that he did say it and admitting that the style is rather clumsy

Let's do teh math shall we? 10 of teh 12 divisions are bogged down in
Iraq. tropps are forced to stay in Iraq for longer duration than they
were supposed to, reserves are being called up involuntarily. Let me
guess, you think there is absolutely no shortage of troop in Iraq.
So which is it. Should we HAVE a draft or not? You can't do this, y'know,
both call for one, insist that one is required, and then blame the
Republicans for wanting one....when you are the one that does.
How about sending the NeoCons who thought this whole mess is worth it
in the first place?
Thought so. You can't address the facts, so you go off on a tangent.
Facts? You mean like how the WMD rationale turned out to be lies? How
the 911-Saddam link turned out be lies. The neccessity of the draft
comes from the fact that AWOL FUCKED up Iraq. The question is not if
we SHOULD have the draft or not but WHY is Iraq so fucked up that we
even have to consider the draft.
Guess that means you lost.
The only things that are lost are the lives of 1070+ GIs who died for
you and AWOLs WMD lies.
Here's a questiomn for you, see if you have the intellectual honesty
to answer this. Are we forcing the GIs to stay in iraq for a longer
duration than they are initially told to be because a) we don't have
enough troops or b) we just wany to toture our own soldiers.
Now try to tell me again about that rosy Iraq propaganda your NoCon
overlords have been feeding you.

Ah. So it IS you guys considering the draft, even though you are charging
the Republicans for thinking about it and using it as a scare tactic to get
people to vote for Kerry. "Vote for Bush and he'll draft your kids and send
them off to be killed", when in reality it's KERRY who will institute a
draft if he is elected.
And you wonder why people like me ignore the other idiotic charges you are
making against Bush.
......and you can't actually address that rather glaring problem, getting
caught in your own lie, so you frantically dredge up all the other old lies,
hoping that people will sorta ignore this one.
Sorry.

er...keep to the topic.
Which is that YOU guys are accusing Bush and Cheney of wanting a draft when
they do not, when the only legislation on the floor proposed to permit one
was proposed by a Democrat, and it was voted down almost unanimously...even
the guy proposing it voting against it. The only two who voted for it were
Democrats.
It's difficult, I know, to keep on topic , but do try.
THIS question is about this particular political screwup....and no amount of
attempting to CHANGE the subject will make what you are doing with the draft
"OK".

Oh, that's parsing just a little too much for me.
Besides which, it's Kerry who is yelling that there aren't enough troops in
Iraq right now, not Bush.
What I honestly don't get is the complete and utter contempt you have for
the thinking ability of those you want to vote for Kerry; I mean, quite
literally, that you are charging actions and consequences (wanting and/or
requireing a draft) to Bush/Cheney in order to scare people into voting your
way, when you are, quite blatantly, attempting to legislate and justify a
draft yourselves.
When challenged to show where voting for Bush/Cheney would result in those
consequences (a draft) you come back with all the reasons Democrats want
one...and all the reasons why, should Kerry be elected, (partly because you
have scared people into thinking that Bush will draft their children) we
will probably have one.
At which point you will try to blame the Republicans for it.
The sad thing is, you could be correct about the thinking ability of those
who vote Democrat. They MIGHT fall for it.
