Object: 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18. (Pre-Tribulation Rapture). 9-3-2007.
Hope For The Christian Dead.
We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, about those who have
fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no
hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God,
through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep. Indeed,
we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who
are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not precede those
who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself, with a word of command,
with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come
down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who
are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thus we shall always be with the
Lord. Therefore, console one another with these words.

Why do atheists cry at funerals?

Because people who are dead are DEAD. Duh.
Why do Christians cry at funerals? Because they know that when people
die, they're gone for good?

Another ramble, longer but with a moral:
Country ways
Ilkley Moor, or Rombald's Moor is an extensive area of upland between
two lush green Dales or valleys reaching heights of just over 1000ft.
Exposed to the wind and rain from across the Atlantic it is a dome of
decayed vegetation known as peat soaked with rain, a kind of natural
water reservoir. What vegetation remains is marginal sedge grass or,
on the more fertile sides, bracken or heather. Barren yet beautiful
especially when it commands fine views over the hills and Dales below.
Apart from grouse shooting in some areas it has no economic
value as not even sheep can graze on most of it.
The land was populated during the bronze age and many remains
can be found. Since these ancient times the moor has been
criss-crossed by a network of firm springy footpaths sometimes marked
with old stone signposts and are a real pleasure to walk making
them popular.
Stray off the path though and you will soon find yourself struggling
to make progress.
Walking on the moors one fine day I took a wrong turning and
the path petered out. Rather than retracing my steps I attempted
to head straight for my destination and soon discovered how
dangerous the moor was off the straight and narrow and got
bogged down. Unable to find my way back I decided my best
bet was to head for my destination a radio mast on the crest.
Without it I would have been lost. Well it was a heck of a
struggle finding my way round the more obvious bog but I
eventually got there exhausted.
The moral here is stick to that you know and trust and
do not walk blindly into the unknown as it can only
get you into the mire.
Ignorance and superstition is that unknown. Do not listen
to its champions as they can only get you bogged down
and struggling in the mire as I was. The Christian who tells you
to 'open your mind' and listen to the voice of something he calls
god, is pointing the way into that bog since he is telling you to
convince yourself you are hearing something that is not there.
Telling you to lie to yourself can only lead to a withdrawl from the
real world into a fantasy world of self-deluded imagination
and that is a path straight into the mire of madness from
which it will be very difficult to extract yourself.
Stay in the real world always, stay with what we know do
not stray down the paths of ignorance. There is no firm
footing in a ephemeral 'heaven' that does not exist except
in a deluded mind. Wishful thinking is a step off the edge
of reality and straight down into an abyss of ignorance.

Proven cases of people returning from the dead:
The numbers are exactly equal. [1] Therefore, half of those who return from
the dead are atheists.
As the number of atheists is much smaller than the number of theists,
atheists stand a statistically better chance of returning from the dead.
(another reason for being an atheist?)
[1] zero for both atheists and theists
(Yeah. OK. I know that half of zero is still zero)
