12 priests |
Sad story.....but so true... poor Carlos.
Twelve priests were about to be
ordained. The final test was for
them to line up in a straight row,
totally nude, in a garden while a
sexy, beautiful, big breasted,
nude model danced before them.
Each priest had a small bell
attached to his weenie and they
were told that anyone whose bell
rang when she danced in front of
them would not be ordained because
he had not reached a state of
spiritual purity. The beautiful
model danced before the first
candidate, with no reaction.
She proceeded down the line with
the same response from all the
priests until she got to the final
priest, Carlos. Poor Carlos. As she
danced, his bell began to ring so
loudly that if flew off, clattering
across the ground and laid to rest
in nearby foliage. Embarrassed,
Carlos quickly scrambled to where
the bell came to rest..
He bent over to pick it up......
Then all the other bells started
to ring.
***Whew 'lame nym'

So, what we have here is an indication that Catholic priests, are known for

Actually one of the priests I knew spend the majority of his days in a
village in Guatemala. He helped build a proper water supply system, proper
sanitation, education for the children, and was part time doctor as well.
He truly took what Jesus said and lived it. His brother was also a priest
and spent a significant amount of time doing the same thing in Africa.
These may be the exceptions or not but there are priests that do what they
are supposed to do and not "mess with the choir boys" so to speak.

Can't come up with something to refute my claim so you resurt to insults.
That doesn't bode well for your argument.

proper sanitation, education for the children,
If he was a priest, then he probably "helped" by telling other people to

You really don't know what you are talking about. Do a little reasearch
so you don't sound stupid. You are painting a sub-group of people with a
braod brush and that is almost never right. As soon as someone says
something like "all crows are black" that is inviting trouble.
He helped by feeding people, building things like a clinic, a potable
water system, etc. He was in essence a one man Peace Corps.
and was part time doctor as well.
Now that's just plain scary.
Why? He had the requisite training. He knew what issues he could handle
and which ones had to be sent to the city and when. The city was a days
journey by a variety of means ranging from drawn cart to bus. No only
that it was not a easy trip for a well person.
He truly took what Jesus said and lived it.
He even cut off body parts that he sinned with?
Don't be ridiculous.
He sold all he had and gave it to the poor. He gave up his health as
well. This was no ghoul of Calcutta that ran back to the USA every time he
needed medical treatments either. Now if you think it is eassy to live in
the jungles of Guatemala, you should try it some time. If the jungle rot
doesn't get to you, the bugs and critters will.
These may be the exceptions or not but there are priests that do what
they are supposed to do and not "mess with the choir boys" so to speak.
Jesus never said that a priest couldn't beat off to an old copy of
"Playboy" in the rectory.
True.
The sad part was that after a number of years his order wanted him to come
back to the States. He told his superiors that he could not because he
had so many projects to complete and teaching to do before the people of
the village were able to maintain things themselves. The Order wold not
listen so he was forced to quit the order. This meant that if things got
tough and donations did not come in, the entire village would start to
decline with the resultant malnutrition, diseases, parasites, etc that was
so prevalent when he first arrived. Now that his work in the remote hills
is done, he has to rely on charity to exist. The order will not give him
any sort of pension to live on since he left. He knew that they would not
support him in his old age when he left the order but he knew these people
needed him and they wanted him to help them. So he sacrificed his pension
for that village too.
The bottom line is that not all priests are evil. Not all are perverts.
Not all are idiots. Not all believe everything the RCC says they should.
There are some priests that are humanitarians but sadly you never see them
or hear about them. They are invisible to lay people and to most of the
religous as well.
You can make all the accusations you want but do try to refrain from
accusing all priests of perversion or crimes. It just isn't true.

Since when? Under what circumstances? I was a catholic for many years
and was very active in the church and I cannpt recall a single time where
a priest said "You are going to hell". Not in church, not outside of
church. As a matter of fact priests avoid condemnations like that. Why?
Beause they know that no matter what a man has done, there is always a
chance that he would make amends with God before his death. Therefore it
would make his statement "you are going to hell" false. Fundmentalist
preachers are a different beast altogether and have heard several "fire

Well, that was one of Jesus' directives. Mark 9:43-47.
You missed the word "if".
Now you're claiming that the priest you knew never sinned, huh.
Now quit playing stupid.

I all of your responses you have not presented any data at all. You act

acknowledge the truth.
Furthemore I charge that you:
A) Have never knowingly had a discussion with a priest.
B) Never attended any RCC service.
C) Cannot name 3 priests that you have seen or met.
You ognorance and willfill prejudice and bigotry is obvious.

You really don't know what you are talking about.
"You're going to hell!" is a standard priestly contribution to most

When was the first priest recognized as such? Since then.

All circumstances.

Why?
You're kidding, right?
Explain yourself. You aren't making any sense. Do you find it so
incredible that a priest would be educated in the field of medicine?
Tell me you wouldn't be terrified if you presented yourself at the ER

His first statement is what I took exception to. He said "So, what we have

I see no word like "some" "few" "many" or any other loosly quantifying word

statement is based on perception and not fact. One could argue that his
second statement is false but it would be rather pointless as there is no

Some of my perceptions are based on my direct experiences with a local
priest, that cost the local RCC $600,000 in damages, after having fled
justice here in the US and returned to his home country of Ireland, leaving
his older brother holding the bag, so to speak, for a string of sexual
misconduct charges with a number of the alter boys of a local parish. While
I am not absolutely sure, I have been given to understand that this priest
was specifically sent to the local parish, to be placed under the guidance
of his older brother, the head of the local parish, in hopes of him
controlling his younger brothers unseemly urges. In fact I met the man and
spoke with him a number of years prior to the point his pedophilia was
brought to light. He swore like a storm trooper and drank like a fish, the
few times that he was in the shop that a group of friends and I were working
on a race car in. Frankly I found it somewhat incongruous that he be charged
with these offences, given his conduct and demeanor when around adult males
in a non-church setting. But masses of evidence and his flight as well as
the payment of damages seem to rather conclusively prove otherwise.
This same church was home to a choir director who is serving 20 years for
violation of probation stemming from molestation charges. This was just last
year.
I was trying to make the point that this has been a problem with priests of
the RCC for an extended period of time, at least 50+ years. As demonstrated
by the comment to which I was responding.
To say that there is no reliable data is utterly ridiculous, as demonstrated
by this paragraph.
http://www.crisismagazine.com/october2001/cover.htm
"Without exception, every one of the 188 dioceses in the American Catholic
Church has faced or is facing claims of child sex abuse. Victims'
organizations and others say the total payout has climbed past $1 billion,
with another half-billion pending. Church officials insist the payout is far
less, but they won't open their books to provide numbers. Regardless, the
huge payments have come at a time when many dioceses find themselves already
selling property, closing schools, and cutting programs in a fiscal crunch
that coincides with smaller donations in the weekly collection baskets."
"So far, more than 3,000 Catholic priests in America have been accused of
sexual misconduct with minors, and nearly 2,000 insurance claims have been
paid."
This is just a few months of 2005! Not specifically priests, or the RCC, but
church related in every case.

How about this list of church related problems?
http://www.ffrf.org/fttoday/1997/june_july97/betrayal.html
How much more evidence do you think that you need, before admitting that
this was and is a very wide spread problem in the American Catholic Church,
not only among the priests but others associated with the RCC church as well
and other denomination as well? At the time of the article that I quoted
from above, in 2001 half a decade ago, over a Billion in damages having been
paid out by the RCC, with another half Billion pending. It is also very well
known that the RCC has gone to great lengths to, cover up, shield, as well
as play a shell game with problem priests for many years. From this it is
patently obvious that this is simply the tip of the iceberg with regard to
this problem, with only the most egregious problems being brought to light.
My statements were meant to further indicate the depth and duration of this
problem. As indicated by my response to a previous statement alluding to the
fact that this was a known problem with priests at least 50 years ago.
