Of course he was because he's doing it for political reasons to set an
example. Also, he's a religious nutcase. I mean what the hell do you
expect. Religions often talk a good game about mercy and love and
forgiveness. But, in the end, that takes a back seat to persecuting
people for rule infractions. If they didn't have the persecution, nobody
would take the religion seriously and the cycle of lunacy would soon
flame out.
Plus, many religious types seem to derive pleasure from the suffering of
others. That's why serial killers like Dennis Raeder were drawn to
church.

god. God in the islamic chanting is "arrahmanir-ar-rahim", clement and
merciful.
I do not think that these are supposed to be the virtues of an Islamic
Judge.
Among the 99 names of Allah, some are very singular, like "al-yabbar",
the overbearing; "al-mutakabbir", the proud; "al-jafid", the
degrader; "al-mundill", the humiliater; etc. Most other names of
Allah, define the conventional excellence of any monotheist god.
But, I suppose that as everywhere, judges use to be benevolent with
people in the poweful positions and harsh and overbearing with those of
lower classes, like whores, beggars and faggots.
I am using the word ***** here in the old sense, as lower class
servants that have to do manial chores for his master, as well as
intimate sexual services with any of body orifices. So, faggots while
serving faithfuly their masters can be more or less sure, till they are
discarded. But the discarded faggots, or those masterless, can stray
out of the right track and start to serve ordinary people. Well for
those, a fundamentalist judge have not any clemence, and condemn they
to the gallows. That is how things are in a fundamentalist context.

You're right, fear of punishment is not morality. It is a way of
motivating a person to act morally. There are other ways, but greed and
pain are still the best motivators ever discovered.
A person who avoids an immoral act out of fear of punishment is more
moral than one who does not, because he is being motivated to act
according to a moral standard. If that other person lives where there
*IS NO MORAL STANDARD* then he is *STILL* less moral for the lack of
that standard.

I'm beginning to think that Fred only recognizes his self preservation. He'd
probably be one of the ones who stopped, watched and had to be pushed aside
at the scene of an accident.
Or like the couple in the SUV last Sunday, so involved in the idea there
