At the Heart of America
As a citizen of south Louisiana, I have an appreciation for the devastation
that a hurricane can bring. In the midst of the rubble and the loss that has
been left in the wake of these storms, I've seen something uncovered - the
heart of America. Whether it has been churches whose members have served
meals or volunteers who have manned shelters, people across the nation have
reached out to help ease the pain of those who have lost so much. FRC staff
member Wyatt Folds took time off to help his fellow Floridians. Sometimes I
think we grow complacent about our need to help, thinking that the
government will take care of those suffering. The government can't put its
arms around someone who has lost loved ones or a family that has no home to
which it can return. Only we can do that. If you would like to help with the
disaster recovery effort, contact the North American Mission Board's fund
for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief at http://www.namb.net/dr/. Join with
us at FRC in praying for the families that have been affected by these
storms, and let's pray for our nation, realizing that ultimately the
protection of our nation comes from the Lord.
Louisiana Votes on Marriage
Tomorrow the people of Louisiana will show the rest of the country what they
believe is the true definition of marriage as they vote on the Louisiana
Marriage Amendment. A vote FOR the amendment is the ONLY vote in support of
traditional marriage. Louisiana will be the second of 13 states to vote on
such an amendment this year. Gay activists and other amendment opponents
have tried to defeat Louisiana's efforts through legal challenges. However,
these suits have been struck down by judges both at the district court level
and the state supreme court. This vote will continue to set the tone for the
rest of the nation on how the marriage issue will play in key elections in
November. Go to the Louisiana Family Forum website and download a printable
guide to this important vote and distribute it throughout your neighborhood.
The guide is available at the link below:

Simulcast
Sunday night, September 19, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (EDT), FRC Action
will host a live simulcast from First Baptist Church of Springdale, Ark.,
the church of Dr. Ronnie Floyd. I will be joined by the nation's leading
pro-family and evangelical leaders, including Focus on the Family's Dr.
James Dobson and Shirley Dobson; Ted Haggard, president of the National
Association of Evangelicals; Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern
Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission; Pastor Ken
Hutcherson, May Day for Marriage organizer; and Christian historian David
Barton. I will ask the viewers and listeners to join me in encouraging
fellow Christians to contact their Congressman in support of the Marriage
Protection Amendment and to make sure that every Christian is registered and
voting on November 2nd. There is much at stake, and we must make our voices
heard.
