1984, revisited |

The AP Lawsuit on Bush's Service
Here's a copy of the lawsuit filed by the Associated Press
on Tuesday seeking access to microfilm of all of Bush's
military service records.
[--snip---]
Tomlin said the AP has been informed that the microfilm in
question does indeed exist. Tomlin said that because paper
records can vanish and be tampered with, the microfilm
"would erase any questions."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A5127-2004Jun25.html
-----------------------------------------
So the microfilm copy of George Bush's military service
record did positively exist in June of 2004.
But then in July of 2004...
---------------------------------------------------------------
Payroll records of large numbers of service members, including
Bush, were ruined in 1996 and 1997 in a project to save large,
brittle rolls of microfilm, Defense Finance and Accounting
Service spokesman Bryan Hubbard told Reuters.

----------------------------------------------------------------
The records were there in June, that's what all official
assurances said, but in July they don't exist, and haven't
existed since 1997.
They were still around last June, but now they say they were
destroyed in 1997. And, they were destroyed as part of an
effort to save them. Back in 1997, that is... though they were
still around in June... Hmmm....

I suppose it's possible that when the statement was made nobody
actually bothered to check (some spokesperson simply assumed they were
there --why wouldn't they be?) but it certainly looks suspicious
(certainly we know the Bush team had been looking into anything that
could make the revered leader look bad and it is highly unlikely that th
e fact that these records were destryed would have gone unnoticed)

The microfilm evidence doesn't exist. It *never* existed. If you continue to
insist that it exists, you will be collected by the Thought Police and
temporarily disappeared in to the Ministry of Love.

For some reason or another, that sounds worse than the "Ministry
of Compassion."
