There are a lot of email hoaxes going around purporting to be Darwin Awards.
I believe the site verifies their nominations.

The original Darwin awards were almost all urban legends, including
famous ones like the JATO story
http://www.snopes.com/autos/dream/jato.asp
(this was also debunked on one of the first Mythbusters episodes,
which
ultimately led to a cool cameo in the "Darwin Awards" movie)
Nowadays, the ones that say "confirmed true by Darwin" have been
verified
at least at some level (although there is sometimes some
embellishment). Other categories are "unconfirmed" and "personal
account",
which can generally be assumed to be urban legends.
Of the ones on this list, all are listed as "confirmed true" except
"A Prop-er Job", "Barn Demolition", and "Fatal Foaming Action".

They weren't trying to kill themselves. They just
wanted to have sex in a very stupid place. They
meant to get dressed when they were through.
Why wouldn't their clothes be neatly folded,
especially if they had someplace to go to later
where they needed to be neatly dressed?

Except for, well you know, mincing gay-bar loiterers:- limp-wristed
winnet-covered walking perfume shops; evil perverters of innocent
little boys!
Carl French: What!? Really! Is this part of the interview?
Interviewer: No, no, I just wanted a few contacts.
Carl French: Well-well, shouldn't we be talking about the film?
Interviewer:We've been off the air for ages. Now, where'd you find
them?
Carl French: Look, I think we are still on the air.
Interviewer: Oh, sod the fucking air! I just still get locked up with
that sort of thing.
Carl French: What about the film?
Interviewer: Just a few addresses, please...
