And Now There Are Nine...
Connecticut became the ninth state involved in a same-sex "marriage" lawsuit
on Wednesday when 14 homosexuals filed suit. The litigants were being led by
attorney Mary Bonauto of the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) --
the same lawyer that sued in Massachusetts for legalized same-sex
"marriage." Connecticut is now one of nine states this year alone that is
being forced to defend its marriage laws against same-sex "marriage"
advocates. As Brian Brown, executive director of the Family Institute of
Connecticut stated: "Instead of going through the normal channels of
democracy, they are actually subverting democracy."
Several Connecticut statutes and court decisions indicate clearly that the
Connecticut General Assembly has defined marriage as only between one man
and one woman, but laws and precedent mean nothing to those who would hope
to destroy marriage. The other side has been trying to redefine marriage
through "judge shopping," where the national homosexual groups pick states
with activist judges who are sympathetic to their cause. Whenever democracy
prevails and the people are allowed to vote on marriage, as they recently
did in Missouri, the vote is overwhelmingly in favor of traditional
marriage. But until we pass an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to protect
marriage, this judicial juggernaut against marriage will continue.

An Opportunity for Kerry and Edwards
As John Kerry and John Edwards campaign for the White House they are trying
to make the case that they represent the ideas and ideals of America. They
say they are moderate Democrats willing to make compromises in order to
bring America together. Their voting records, however, tell a different
story. There is something, however, both of them can do in the next two
months before the election to demonstrate their willingness to move to the
center: confirm President Bush's judicial nominees. Both Kerry and Edwards
as U.S. Senators have the power to confirm the many qualified judges that
languish in the Senate.
Just one example is Justice Janice Rogers Brown. Here is a black woman, the
daughter of Alabama sharecroppers, who overcame poverty, segregation and
single-motherhood to work her way through college and law school and is now
a popular Justice on the California Supreme Court. Her credentials are
unassailable yet Senator Edwards and his Democratic colleagues on the Senate
Judiciary Committee refuse to support her nomination. A simple nod by
Senator Kerry and Edwards would give Justice Brown a confirmation to the
second highest court in the country and yet it seems their extreme ideology
prevents them from recognizing her qualifications. It seems these men of
privilege are afraid of the diversity Justice Brown represents, and yet
Senators Kerry and Edwards want us to believe they will represent all
Americans.
