3/4ths of a million hits |
By the time this day comes to a close our web site
The Constitutional Principle: Separation of Church and State
will have reached or passed 3/4ths of a million (750.000) hits (visitors)
and over 1,571,000 page views since July 15, 1998. It wasn't that long ago
I posted that it had just passed half a million hits (visitors).
It is a nice feeling and now the next goal will be one million visitors. It
probably won't take that long to reach that either.
Not bad for a two person (sometimes) or one person (other times) operation
done totally out of pocket.
In spite of what some people have claimed we get no funding, no backing, no
financial contributions from any individuals, groups or organizations.
We have gotten an occasional article written specifically for the web site
by a professional such as a lawyer and given to the web site, at no cost to
us and have received permission to post a couple articles that were owned
by a library or an individual at no cost to us)

Another great exercise in revisionist history. Just understand that when
you succeed in changing history to indicate that we do not inherit our
rights and liberties from God, but from "your" benevolent government,
freedom will cease to exist. The government is already trampling upon the
civil liberties (and it not a Republican or Democrat focused effort--it's
the nature of government). You ought to spend your time more wisely working
on reducing federal, state and local government involvement in our lives.
That is the real issue at hand, not religion.

Right, try as hard as you like, *****, we're not going for it. The
only times we seem to have any problems with governmental trampling of
our rights, is when religious fucks are in the white house...and you'd
have us forget that the fundies are working day and night to take over
our government (they seem to have a fairly solid stranglehold on it,
now). Religious interference with government _is_ the real issue at
hand.

Wow, now that was an intellectual thought. The civil liberties of the
people of this nation have been eroding at an increasing past since
Roosevelt, and the predominance of legislation that is the source of that
loss of liberty was promulgated by your so called liberals (who are only
socialist democrats masquerading as liberals). Both parties are corrupt,
with little difference between the objectives they pursue. The only real
difference is the manner by which they arrive at their destination. You and
your ilk wants to destroy God; those against you (primarily the moderates)
want to incorporate God. Both want to control the masses to their own
selfish end.
California and several small states are leading the way in tearing apart the
fabric of our liberty, and it has been run by "liberals" for most of the
period in which the rights of the people have been trampled, be it
environmental extremists, gay rights advocate, animals rights activists or
the like. Under "liberals," government has raped taxpayers financially and
eroded the rights of the people. Conservative governors--with full consent
of the liberal assembly and senate--have increased the power of the court
system.
I could care less if you "buy" anything I have to say. A closed mind is
worth little in the fight to restore some sense of justice in the nation.
For your information, I do not suggest religious influence in the White
House, but I have no faith in men (or women for the politically correct
crowd) to pursue moral objectives. I do not want my rights coming from the
government (which is what the "lefties" are pursuing) because at that
juncture, it is the government that will take them away. Funny, you cannot
promote civilized discussion and have to resort to crude thought. You would
make a great "liberal," at least from the socialist's perspective.

I don't see him claiming that we inherit rights and liberties from
anyone's "benevolent government".
The question is whether we "inherit" rights and liberties at all, or
whether we have them solely because we *assert* them and dare anyone,
government or otherwise, to take them away from us. In short, we get
rights from "we the people" and we lose rights when "we the people"
fail to successfully stand up for those rights.
The government is already trampling upon the

WE are the government in this country.

Well, how about going down to the local chamber and demonstrating how "We"
are the government . . . by explaining your position and giving them your
input . . . which they will clearly ignore because your rights interfere
with their agenda.
Do like the response . . . wish it were that simple. Most people would not
even comprehend what you are trying to say as they have no idea of how our
government works. There are many historians who point out (correctly, in my
view) that if we do not "inherit" our rights from God, then the only logical
source is the government, or we (as you suggest). I just disagree with your
supposition that WE are the government--in theory, perhaps. In reality, WE
= cattle.

Huh? If you're talking about the US, then that's not true.
Our rights derive from self evidence and not a deity, or
in a sense, because we say so. "We hold these truths to
be self-evident...", not "We hold these truths which were
handed down from on high...".
Oh and please don't think the later use of the word Creator
in that same text refers to a deity. It simply means that
the mere fact that the individual was created is enough to
instantiate these rights that the government must respect.
Regardless if they were created by the universe, a deity, or
simply just their parents (the simple fact that they *were*
created gives them these rights regardless of the source
of the creation). In short it acknowledges they were created,
but stays out of the debate on who/what created them (they
certainly knew how to use the word god and weren't afraid to
use it, but intentionally steered clear of it here).
As always any opinions I may have written above are mine and mine alone.
Dave.

Ah, you are the one re-writing history to make it sound like the
founding fathers were Christians.
