This got lost somewhere, so i'm reposting it:
I too have grave misgivings about abortion. However, when I Googled
'abortion statistics' to check your figures I was reminded why abortion
should be legal.
Depending on which site you visit, between 20 and 22 million abortions
are carried out illegally each year. It is clear that abortion cannot
be stopped, so it is best controlled. It is better that it is done
humanely, where the mother can be properly cared for and safeguarded.
Better that than allow the acts of desperation by and exploitation of
pregnant women by the unscrupulous.
I'm afraid Duke, that you and other fundamentalist Christians have too
rosey a view of humans generally and women in particular. Also, as a
man, I think it would be hypercritical of me to stand in judgement over
someone facing a trial I can never face - something you should bare in
mind as well.

deity has ever told me anything. Anyway, let us for argument's sake
assume that your god really exists and has indeed told you something
about his plans. Then how do you know that you were told the truth? You
may not be able to imagine God lying to his worshippers, but since the
human mind is supposedly incapable of fully understanding God (did you
not say something like that yourself?), there is still the possibility
that the assumption "God does not lie" is wrong.
If God is really incomprehensible then anything is possible, even that
atheists go to Heaven and believers to Hell.
