THE PRESIDENT IS BELOVED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE:
January 12, 2005
Inauguration to Get Unprecedented Security
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Security for President Bush's inauguration will be
unprecedented with some 6,000 law enforcement personnel, canine bomb
teams and close monitoring of transportation.
In describing the plans for the Jan. 20 event, Department of Homeland
Security Secretary Tom Ridge said that while the decibel level was
negligible on terrorism chatter, the 55th quadrennial presidential
inauguration was such a high-profile event that security would be at
its highest level.
``This is the most visible manifestation of our democracy,'' Ridge
said at a news conference near the Capitol, where Bush will take the
oath on the West Front.
``Security will be at the highest levels of any inauguration,'' Ridge
said.
The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it will expand
the no-fly zone, now a 15- 3/4-mile radius around the Washington
Monument, to a 23-mile radius around Reagan National, Dulles and
Baltimore-Washington International airports. The temporary flight
restrictions will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 20.
Roughly 2,500 military personnel will also be on hand to bolster
security, with another 4,700 involved in ceremonial duties, said Maj.
Gen. Galen Jackman, who commands the Army's military district of
Washington.
On Tuesday, he sought to play down the terror warnings issued last
year. ``There is no threat directed toward the inaugural or inaugural
activities,'' he said......

It amuses me that people make a big deal over this. It's the first
inauguration since 9-11. It represents the very core of the American
system of government. If planned security was anything less than
"unprecedented" then somebody is NOT doing their job....

Okay, I can't argue with that.

By your rationalle, 6,000 is not enough. There should be representation from
across the country from every law enforcement department. This number should
be 50x larger.

Who's whining? It should be a federal expence, not a D.C. municipal
expense. D.C. can't and shouldn't have to pay for this.

I guess one person's whining is another's noticing that which should be
noticed by thinking people.
One thing that should be noticed - who exactly is 'donating' to pay for
the coronation. Bush's Base, that's who, and here's a handy list of them
and how much they've promised to ante up:
http://www.inaugural05.com/donors/
The list is handy because it's a good heads-up as far as those who will
be screwing over We the People for the rest of W's reign. They're
basically buying favors that fall outside of scope of campaign finance
reform.
Another thing that should be noticed - the standard excuse for all the
security We the People are paying for is 9/11. 9/11 has become like a
monk's habit for the GOP - it covers a multitude of sins. The real
reason for all the security is not so much actual threats over and above
the norm for such an event, it's rather the glaring fact of W being the
most unpopular president in modern history, possibly of all history.
Worldwide and nationwide. Most of us don't want him as president, and so
the unprecedented protests, and hence the unprecedented security.

You don't think so? 3,000 of those 6,000 goons will be doing nothing
but keeping dissidents out of the crowd. And along the parade route,
the sidewalks will all be segmented and roped off and every single
person will be screened.

The "goons" have the same job at every Presidential appearance. Clinton
spoke at LaSalle College in Philly in 1997. We spent the entire morning
assisting the secret service in screening every single person standing
outside the venue.....gun scans, personal interviews and pat downs. The
area was roped off and no one else was permitted entry. Those who did
not want to consent to the security measures were free to leave. All
visible dissidents were sent to the roped off protest areas. Let's not
blame Bush for Presidential security measures. They were exactly the
same for President Clinton.
