CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- The former wife of Republican Senate candidate
Jack Ryan claimed in divorce documents released Monday that he pressured
her to perform sex acts in clubs while others watched.
Jeri Lynn Ryan, an actress best known for roles on TV's "Boston Public" and
"Star Trek: Voyager," said in the documents that she angered Ryan by
refusing.
She did acknowledge infidelity on her part, which she said took place after
their marriage was irretrievably broken.
In the documents, Jack Ryan denied the allegations, saying he had been
"faithful and loyal" to his wife.
Jeri Lynn Ryan charged during a custody hearing that Ryan took her on
surprise trips to New Orleans, New York and Paris in 1998, and that he
insisted she go to sex clubs with him on each trip.
She said that after going to dinner with Ryan in New York, he demanded she
go to a club with him.
"It was a bizarre club with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from
the ceiling," she said. She said she refused when Ryan asked her to perform
a sexual act while others watched.
She said Ryan apologized after they left. But then, she said, he took her
to Paris and again took her to a sex club.
"I did arrange romantic getaways for us, but that did not include the type
of activity she described," Ryan said in the papers.
"We did go to one avant-garde nightclub in Paris which was more than either
one of us felt comfortable with. We left and vowed never to return."
He said he felt bad for their son that she would falsely accuse him.
In a statement released Monday, Jeri Lynn Ryan made no mention of the
allegations, but said she now considers Ryan a good man and loving father.
A Los Angeles judge on Friday ordered parts of the records unsealed.
The two vigorously fought the public disclosure of the files since before
Jack Ryan's win in the March 16 Republican primary. They have argued that
making them public would be harmful to their 9-year-old son, Alex.
The Ryans said they were "disturbed and angered" by the order, but decided
not to appeal.
Ryan had repeatedly assured GOP leaders the files contain nothing
embarrassing enough to torpedo his bid for the Senate against Democrat
Barack Obama.
Rumors about the documents' contents have been circulating since before the
March 16 primary. Some of his GOP opponents raised them as an issue in that
campaign, but Ryan won the primary handily.
The judge said making the records public could harm the Ryans' son and
embarrass the candidate. But he said the public deserved to know the
contents.
The Chicago Tribune and Chicago TV station WLS sued to have the documents
released.

And yet here, the data refutes you. The Republican wanted public sex,
and I assure you that Mr. Clinton wanted it to stay private. President
Clinton did not hide his Christianity, altho he did not make such a
public show of piety as Mr. Bush does. I know nothing about Ryan's
attitude toward this; I already know more about him than I needed to.

Democrats? Where does the word "Democrat" appear in the article?

That was a private affair. Ryan is reaping some of the oats the
Republicans sowed then. Starr's and other GOP politicians' obssessions
with sex and Clinton dragged on an affair which should have been of no
consequence to anyone but Hillary. Europe pretty much thought it was
much ado about nothing. The GOP established the new tradition that no
politican deserves privacy, especially regarding sex. I may disagree,
but it's a new century, and we have the US GOP to thank for much of
it. Welcome to the new coarsening American culture (not that we've
ever achieved maturity or elegance, but I had hopes).

I believe the term you're looking for is "sauce for the gander."
Oh, btw, there is a significant difference between Clinton's actions and
Ryan's. As far as was able to be determined, Clinton's sexual relationship with
Lewinsky was consensual. Ryan's attempt to coerce his wife into having
non-consensual public sex was not. Now I know that the concept of consent means
nothing to you misogynist Taliban-wannabees so I understand you trying to
compare the two situations.

It's _not_ relevant when it's kept to themselves. When it becomes
relevant is when politicans use other people's sexual activity as a
political tool (pun intended) against others given the immaturity
of the average American voter. The Republinazis hated Clintoon
because Clintoon was an excellent, valuable President that actually
helped people join the ranks of the middle class -- but they couldn't
attack his progress and undeniable positive effects in the US so
the rightards attacked his *****.
Pretty sick, actually. The rest of the world laughed at the
Republicans and, unforunately, all Americans.

*his privacy being invaded?

Mark, I suppose I just don't understand how a politician's sexual
practices are in any way relevant to how he does his job.

According to the right, we do *not* have a Constitutional right to
privacy.

If *I don't, neither does *he.

Thus Mark justifies his own double standard by some other guy's
hypocrisy.

No, he just expects our leaders to live under the conditions they impose
on others. If I haven't any right to privacy in my bedroom, why should
a congressman wannabe have such a right?
On the other hand, maybe we should ALL have a right to privacy in our
personal relationships.

Bingo.
I don't want to see his private sex life aired for all to see, and neither
do I want mine aired for all to see.
Please understand that I'm not necessarily defending him. I was more
attacking the idiotic statement by a judge that the public "deserves to
know" about his sex life. The public doesn't "deserve to know" *****. Now,
*he* may deserve to suffer that indignity, but again, the public doesn't
deserve *****. It's people who think the public "deserves to know" all the
juicy gossip who make it so that you and I can't have our privacy.

And add a new feature as well, though I tend to barf after spinning in
