A chance for Falwell to prove God exists |
The men's basketball team of Jerry Falwell's Liberty University just managed to
get an automatic bid into the NCAA Basketball Tournament in a convincing 89-44
win over High Point. Since they have a relatively poor record (18-14) and play
in a weak conference (the Big South) they probably will get a 15 or 16 seed in
the tourney and end up playing a legitimate national title contender such as
Stanford, Duke, St. Joseph's or that ilk.
So, this is a perfect opportunity for Falwell and his university. Jerry, here
is your chance to convince me.
Liberty has to win their first round game. They don't even have to advance past
that. They just have to win their first round game.
If they can do that (especially if their opponent is a Catholic university)
then I will consider that as evidence of divine intervention. God most
certainly won't let His team lose, would he?

I wouldn't consider a single game to be evidence of divine intervention.
There have been flukes before, and there have been games where a 16
nearly beat a 1. No, for a true miracle that would quell all doubts,
Liberty would have to win the whole ball of wax. IMHO, of course...
How much do you want to bet Jerry will steer very far away from uttering
in public any prayer for Liberty to win the championship?

There have indeed been games where a #16 NEARLY beat a #1, but since the NCAA
went to the 64 team format there has NEVER been an instance where a #16
actually pulled it off. #15 teams have beaten #2 seeds on rare occasion.
How much do you want to bet Jerry will steer very far away from uttering

No bet, although you should have heard the Liberty crowd during the game.
According to the press report from the game they were shouting, "Jer-ry!
Jer-ry!" when he stood up during the game and showed himself. Must have been a
lot like the Springer show...

Now, now...one must not put God to the test. :}

According to theists, it doesn't work that way. You don't get what you
want if it is not in God's plan. Then again, why the ***** bother
praying if God is going to do what he wants anyway?
I've always found it extremely arrogant of xtians that they think they
can change an omnipotent allknowing being's mind by talking to it.

Even better, the arrogant xoids claim they are humble because they
believe in the blood sacrifice of their god to wash away their sins.
Since they are without sin they can do whatever they want.

Why couldn't that be taken as evidence that the Catholics are right
after all...? ;-)

While I am certainly not pro-Catholic I am forced to admit that I am hoping
that Liberty draws St. Joseph's in the opening round so that they can get
pounded into chichilla food.
