Joseph H replies: Good Pensul, I admire your faith. Even more, I
admire your hope. Where is there evidence that "faith in God" has
produced any better societies throughout history? Repression, torture,
slavery, conquest, inquisition...was the lot of the multitudes down
the years who enjoyed the benefits of faith.
Most of today's Western societies are essentially secular in outlook.
They are rather more humane and, yes, moral than the societies
depicted above. I think that we have the capacity to regulate
ourselves without recourse to credulity and blind belief. I would,
however, prefer if we had rather ore faith in...ourselves.
