A Crucial Fact Regarding Rumsfeld |
If no one in authority at Abu Ghraib knew and approved of the abuse,
then that prison had a policy of, absolutely, "See no evil, hear no
evil, and speak no evil." Some of the photos of the abuse show guards
abusing prisoners in the prison corridor, and looking as if they
simply took for granted that no one in authority would see them and
file charges against them. Jeremy Sivits said something about
stomping on prisoners’ fingers until they screamed. That would mean
that the guards took for granted that no one would hear this and file
charges against them, and that, if the prisoners most seriously
injured saw a medical officer, he wouldn’t tell someone who’d file
charges.
Donald Rumsfeld says that those high up in the chain of command didn’t
order the abuse of the prisoners. If those in charge of Abu Ghraib
didn’t know, this would mean that despite experiences like the My Lai
massacre, which taught us that soldiers who aren’t Nazis could act
like Nazis in war, supervision at the prison was so non-existent that
the guards could have done whatever they pleased in the corridor and
their commanders wouldn’t have seen it, could have made the prisoners
scream and the commanding officers wouldn’t have heard it, and could
have caused moderate injuries and the medical officer wouldn’t have
told the authorities. Frankly, if I were Rumsfeld, I’d rather look as
if I decided that the guards would commit a limited amount of kinky
sexual abuse, than look as if my negligence at one prison was so
absolute that it gave the opportunity for fairly unlimited mayhem!

Yawn. Feel free to throw that N-word around. The way those of you who
inflate the "abuse" of those prisoners provides a clear insight into your
little minds. A few of our people hurt the feelings of some of those who
were captured trying to kill us and you're crying about My Lai and
concentration camps. A couple of bad apples embarass the bastards who
behead innocents and publish the videos and it's off with Rummy's head.
Should it have happened? Hell no. Is it anything more than a few
undisciplined guards who deserve to be court-martialled? Hell no. Aw, but
that just doesn't advance our ABB political agenda now does it?
