A LIFE POST MORTEM |
A LIFE POST MORTEM
Would Christianity have any relevance today if they did not promise a life
post mortem? I think that ALL Contemporary religions exist for one reason
ONLY, the fear of DEATH

Christianity hinges on a number of issues. The core of it is a belief
in a god. But this alone is not enough to guarantee survival of the
belief system. The first step it has to take is to find a way to hijack
the survival instinct of the human mind for its own purposes. To this
end the concept of the soul was used.
The human body and mind are one. If one dies the other dies. Yet our
experience is defined by the mind. Our perception of existance is
defined by the mind. If we were to lose a limb we would lament it but
we would continue to exist as an individual. Thus the focus of survival
is on the continuity of the mind.
The soul as defined by Christianity usurps the place of the mind. As it
is defined by the church they can define the steps one must take in
order to assure survival of the soul. To this end they predicate your
survival on the continued propogation of the belief in god. If you do
not believe in god your soul is forfiet and damned to hell (another
creation of the religion).
It is unlikely that christianity would exist without the concept of life
after death. Some form of theism may have managed to survive. But the
efficacy of using the concept of the soul to enforce propogation of the
belief system is far to powerful. Whichever religion was able to make
use of it effectively first would soon dominate the world. But that is
the nature of evolution.

Not Buddhism, as far as I can tell.

That's like suggesting Christianitiy didn't have any reverence on Tuesdays.
However, those of us that do understand the concept of eternal live sharing in the glory
of God makes perfectly good sense, and only a fool would turn away.

That reply makes no sense. Come on Duke, take the gloves off. If your
religion required you to worship a god just for worship's sake, or to
bolster your morality, would you bother? Why? IOW, if Christianity
didn't offer eternal life, if death was considered the end of life as you
know it, would you bother with it?
Why?
