A little piece of poetry. |
What do people think of this. It was in the Daily Mail letters 1st of
September, 2003
'Mine is a way that is little trod,
I am bound by no sect nor creed;
I say my prayers to Nature's God
In the field where the lapwings breed.
I hear the wind preach,
and its Psalms are sung in praise of the infinite free;
And ne'er a sermon from human tongue
Is half so divine unto me.'

Nice poem, but the meter is kinda broken. I would rewrite the fourth and
fifth lines: "I hear the wind sing its Psalms / In praise of the infinite
free..."

It could be the vowel length pronunciation that's the problem.

Hm. I think the original scans okay. Not terribly tight, but if you
read it, it comes out all right.

It's likely the paper screwed up the lines.
Try reading it aloud this way:
"I hear the wind preach, and its Psalms are sung
in praise of the infinite free;
