Object: A really bizarre email sent to me
Received in my email yesterday afternoon. I have no idea why it was sent to
me, it wasn't sent as a c.c.
Before one reads it or afterwards they also need to check this out:
The Barton Chronicles

Ok, now for the email:
To: The Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs
From: Edward M. Johnson, J.D. Attorney at Law
Re: Your Published Critique of David Barton's "America's Godly Heritage"
(Published on Your Website, dated 6/18/96.)
Date: Monday, 10/20/03
Gentlemen:
I am a sinner, saved by Grace on July 22, 1981, while I was a very actively
a practicing Roman Catholic, (attending daily mass 6 days a week, and was a
Lecture & Commentator at my church). Since being Saved in 1981 I have been
an active and Evangelizing Member of Non-Denominational Churches. I have
been a regular writer in a Christian Newspaper (The Trumpet), Hosted a
Christian TV Talk Show ("God's Army") and a Radio Program ("The Christian
Lawyer"), and have shared my testimony to thousands through my TV and Radio
programs and my activities in CBMC and FGBMFI, and The Gideons. My
testimony
is published in the FGBMFI "Voice" Magazine (circulation 800,000), and in
the book "Voice Speaks." I am very zealous in my Lifestyle Evangelistic
efforts and in my intense love of My Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Finally,
I
am a mature Christian, and Very Well Grounded in The Word, having studied
it
diligently and daily for the last 22 years since I was Saved. It is from
this platform, as a fellow Christian Brother who genuinely cares that I
voice my opinion to you.
I started my legal career as the First Research Attorney to US District
Judge John H. Wood, Jr. Later I was an Assistant US Attorney with Hon. Bill
Sessions, the former FBI Director. My strong suite was always legal
research. I have reviewed the cases cited by David Barton in his book, and
I
am in full agreement with hs statements. These cases say what he represents
them to be.
The Critique of the Joint Comittee really appears to me to be written in
hindsight in order to to support the thesis that the so called "Doctrine of
Seperation of Church & State" is a real and a valid Doctrine. It certainly
is not. It is nothing more than a mere concoction of the Liberal Earl
Warren
Court, that was used to remove prayer from schools in 1962. Hence the slide
and decay and downfall of our Nation's morals and ethics since that time.
With all due respect and proper Christian Courtesy, I am compelled to and
must state that your published critique of David Barton's "America's Godly
Heritage" http://members.tripod.com/~candst/bjcpa1.htm does a Great
Disservice to an Extremely Well Researched and Accurate Publication.
To deny, discredit, and twist the truths and well documented facts and
statements contained in David Barton's book, is to deny the absolute and
irrefutable truths expressed therein. The reason for the current state of
dishonor and disarray in the homes, corporate boardrooms, and streets of
America, is due to, in my opinion, narrow minded and unreasoned thinking on
the part of individuals who do not speak for the majority of their
membership. Sad, but true.
The fact is: America was indeed founded upon Christian Principles, by
Founding Fathers who were also professing Christians. The so called
"Doctrine of Separation of Church and State" was invented by the Earl
Warren
Supreme Court, after 180 years of Legal Precedent to the exact contrary!!
This was an absolute 180 degree reversal and a "figment" of the Warren
Court's twisting and convoluting of the well established precedent of prior
law going back 180 years (Stare Decisis).
America was Founded on Prayer to and Belief in the Son of God, Jesus
Christ,
my Lord and Savior. It was immediately after Prayer was taken out of
Schools
that the Walls of Protection of our youth, their parents, the Church (the
Body of Christ, not the Baptist Church) and our Nation began to Crumble.
The
so called "Doctrine of Separation of Church and State" has been used to
proliferate the removal of God from America.
Read the well documented statistics and facts contained in the book,
"America To Pray or Not To Pray," by David Barton. It will "take the scales
off your eyes."
We are now a Nation Without Walls, and the Supreme Court is considering
heretofore unthinkable things such as Whether to Remove "Under God" and "In
God We Trust" from our National Pledge and our Coinage and Currency. Bibles
and Bible Studies, and Prayers are now "Off Limits" in America's Schools
thanks to this twisted line of thought, while many ungodly books are
actually on required Reading Lists. Evolution is taught in America's
schools
as a biological fact, while Creationism is dismissed as an "Outdated
Religious Belief." We can no longer openly pray in Americas schools, or
carry a Bible.
And The Baptist Joint Committee On Public Affairs has very unfortunately
and
quite unwittingly been an ignorant and unknowing pawn in advancing this
same
type and line of thinking. Who wrote this piece for you? Read it and weep!!
I did. It is a great discredit to the Baptist Denomination and falls in
line
with the Movement towards twisting words to cast God out of Our Once
Blessed
and Once Highly Favored Great Nation. It is only when America Turns back to
God and humbles itself and prays, that we will once again enjoy God's Hand
of Blessing, which I believe has been withdrawn for a time and a season due
to the reasons stated in the comments of Billy Graham's daughter, Ann Gram
(scroll down below).
If your critique of David Barton's America's Godly Heritage had come from
some some liberal anti-Christian group, I could understand why it was done.
Your tearing down and disparaging of this Excellent Work is a disgrace to
The Baptist Religion and it explains why so many Americans are leaving
Denominational Churches in general (and not just the Baptist Churches) and
joining Non-Denominational Churches. It also explains why so many
denominational churches are breaking away from the mainline denominations,
and becoming non-denominational. Selah.
Have you noticed the increasing departure of Baptist Ministers and Baptist
Churches as they leave and become Non-Denominational? Remember Rev. John
Osteen, the well known Baptist Pastor, who founded the huge
non-denominational Lakewood Church in Houston? My Pastor, Rev. Rick Godwin,
is a former Southern Baptist Minister, who pastors a large and fast growing
non-denominational church, Eagles Nest Christian Fellowship, in San
Antonio,
and we are building a 5100 seat church auditorium on 46 acres. Rev. David
Walker, former Pastor of First Baptist in San Antonio, now pastors a fast
growing River City Fellowship, a non-denominational church in San Antonio.
Rev. Max Lucado's Oak Hills Church of Christ in San Antonio just voted last
week to become Non- Denominational. In San Antonio we have Mega Churches
that are all denominational, Rev. John Hagee's Cornerstone Church, Rev.
Peter Spencer's Harvest Fellowship, and former Baptist Preacher, Rev.
Robert
Emmett's Community Bible Church, among many others.
Have you ever wondered why this is happening? It's because the "Man Made
Rules and Interpretations of Joint Committees such as yours, seeking to
speak for the whole, when they do not really represent the whole. Nor do
they necessarily speak the truth, as in this particular instance. They
represent the minority views of sometimes one person, or a perhaps a
"chosen
few" who are in control of the communication arm of the denomination. And
on
David Barton's book, your Joint Committee's published Critique is totally
wrong, untrue, and way off base.
I do not seek to debate this issue, just to Set The Record Straight, and
hopefully cause a new Joint Committee to take a harder look at the subject
Critique, by persons other than the person who wrote it, and the 1996 Joint
Committee that adopted the unfortunate Critique of David Barton's Book.
There is no such thing as a "Doctrine of the Separation of Church and
State." It only exists in the imaginations and twistings of 180 years of
prior legal precedents by the Earl Warren Court.
Selah.Think about these things.
May God Bless You and Give You Much Some Needed Wisdom and Discernment.
Ed Johnson, J.D. Attorney
See Below for the words and Wisdom of Ann Graham, Billy Graham's daughter,
as she comments on this point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
Take a Stand!!
"If you don't stand for something, you stand for nothing."
This is not intended to be a joke, it's not funny, it's intended to get you
thinking.
Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson
asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding the
attacks on Sept. 11). Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful
response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we
are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get
out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman
He is, I believe He has calmly backed out.
How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we
demand He leave us alone?" In light of recent events...terrorists attack,
school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare
(she
was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in
our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the
Bible in school ... the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not
steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
[Comment from EJ: Read the books, "America, To Pray of Not To Pray" by
David
Barton, and "America's Godly Heritage," by David Barton. Both of these
books
are very well researched and well documented books, and are real eye
openers!! They are available in any Christian Bookstore.]
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they
misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might
damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an
expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK. Then someone
said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they
misbehave. The school administrators said no faculty member in this school
better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad
publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued (there's a big difference
between disciplining, touching, beating, smacking, humiliating, kicking,
etc.). And we said OK.
Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and
they won't even have to tell their parents. And we said OK. Then some
wise
school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do
it
anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want so they can have all
the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them
at school. And we said OK. Then some of our top elected officials said it
doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. Agreeing
with them, we said it doesn't matter to me what anyone, including the
President, does in private as long as I have a job and the economy is good.
Then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of nude women and
call
it wholesome, down-to-earth appreciation for the beauty of the female
body.And we said OK.
And then someone else took that appreciation a step further and published
pictures of nude children and then further again by making them available
on
the Internet. And we said OK, they're entitled to free speech. Then the
entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote
profanity, violence, and illicit sex. Let's record music that encourages
rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes. And we said it's just
entertainment, it has no adverse effect, nobody takes it seriously anyway,
so go right ahead. Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no
conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother
them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out.
I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW." Funny how
simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going
to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what
the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they
spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the
Lord,
people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and
obscene
articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is
suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing? Funny how when you forward this message, you will not
send
it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe,
or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more
worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.
Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it...no one
will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit
back
and complain about what bad shape the world is in! We will all reap what we
all sow. If we continue to allow the Vocal Minority to Sow Sour Seeds into
our Nation, we are responsible, because those Sour Seeds will reap a Sour
Harvest such as we have been, are now experiencing, and will continue to
harvest, until we Take a Stand and Do Something about it! I frequently
write
my Congressmen and Representatives on Issues, particularly those that
affect
The Family and The Values Espoused by Our Forefathers. I always sign
petitions and forward them to others.
It's been said, and it's true: "If you don't stand for something, you stand
for nothing." I very strongly believe in The Bible as the Divine Inspired
Word of God, I am a Professing Born Again Christian, and I strongly believe
in the Sanctity of Marriage, and the Sanctity of Life, and in all the
Traditional Judaeo-Christian Values Upon which our Great Nation was
founded.
These same values were espoused by each one of our Founding Fathers. These
are the same Judaeo-Christian Values that have made the United States of
America The Greatest Nation on Earth. When we depart from those Traditional
Judaeo-Christian American Values, we will reap what we sow: Dishonor, Sour
Seeds, and the Sour Harvest that comes with Dishonoring God and casting Him
out of America. If we stand by and say and do nothing while the Ungodly
Vocal Minority Casts God Out of our Nation, we are responsible for our
inaction. Let's get back to the Godly Values & Principles Upon which The
USA
was Founded!! We say and we sing, "God Bless The USA!!" But are we really
meaning it? Or are we just mouthing it? Are are we casting God out of the
USA by allowing the vast and very ungodly vocal minority of the population
cast God our of The USA?!! I say Yes!! We are!!
Take a Stand!!
Selah. Think about that!!

[much snippage]
Take a Stand!!

"If you don't stand for something, you stand for nothing."
This is not intended to be a joke, it's not funny, it's intended to get you
thinking.

I'll say it's not funny; whoever wrote it muffed the punch line.
It's "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
So it did get me thinking. It got me thinking that the author is an
idiot.
