A Salvo in the Culture War? |
Hello again.
I'm glad to be back after a very long absence.
I think those of you who have experienced persecution -- for lack of a
better word -- at the hands of Christian (immoral) hypocrites can relate to
my plight. And be rest assured that what I am reporting here is NO joke.
I am about to lose my home and a significant amount of property in Marinette
County, Wisconsin. 'And why is that?', you ask? Well its because the
County's Corporation Counsel, County Treasurer, and the County's Property
Lister are preventing me from paying my property taxes. And why is that, you
ask? Because they *can* -- so they say. And '*why* can they do that to such
a nice, affable atheist as yourself?', you ask. 'Isn't there a Wisconsin law
or statute that would prevent them from doing such a nasty and despicable
right-wing Christian thing to poor old you?', you ask.
Funny, I asked that very same question. Guess what the reply was? I was told
that I needed to find an attorney to prove that what they are doing is
legal. They can't and won't point to a statute that supports their position.
Well as far a hiring a lawyer: I live in a county which is controlled, for
the most part, by a Tom Delay wanna-be type. AND I AM NOT JOKING. Any lawyer
I could enlist (and I have tried many) to represent me would effectively be
committing career suicide. And, oh, I forgot to add: Douche Bag's son is a
sitting judge.
To make matters worse, I am as alone out here as it gets. I have no real
friends, family or influential supporters to come to my aid. No one,
including even my mail carrier, will bring me out food or water anymore.
*That* is the kind of power Douche Bag exerts. (I live seven miles away from
*my* town and about three miles away (my way) from my 'other' town (which
has no proper grocery store) and I have no transportation, other than a
bicycle. So in short, I am being clubbed like a baby seal out here. (I guess
all this is being done to be for the Greater Glory of God, I suppose.)
Any suggestions?
Note: Although none of the local state officials are doing anything about
Tom Delay, Jr. over here, I *have* reported some of his antics to Senator
Russ Feingold's office -- including his part in an insurance scam involving
himself and 'my' insurance company concerning the (suspicious) destruction
of my home by fire. We'll see what happens with that!
As for some 'normal' alt-atheism stuff, I'll get to that in a bit.
Whew, it sort of feels like I'm among friends again. And its a very good
feeling.

How are they preventing you from writing a check payable to the County Tax
Office
noted as payment of property tax? This could be sent via registered mail as
'proof'
that you have paid your property tax.

Hi, Greywolf; long time, no see.
<Snip horrific story>
Good grief. Kiddo, do you have any way of contacting the national
news? Obviously, your local press will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of
You-Know-Who, but maybe ABC, NBC, or CBS might take up your cause? The
program "60 Mintues," maybe?
I'll keep a good thought for you, Greywolf.

Thanks for the sentiment. Unfortunately everything I posted is true. I am so
isolated at the moment that it feels surreal. I *have* been in touch with
Senator Russ Feingold's office about my 'problem,' but his hands *may* be
tied in regards to all this. It's just possible that because of the way
things
are structured in the state of Wisconsin, the local (state) officials have
to
deal with my issues. And if you open up your window, you just *may* smell
the rotten smell of Marinette County political corruption wafting your way.
(So much for justice in Marinette County for atheists.)
What's sad about all this is that the so-called Christians participating in
all of
this obviously feel they aren't doing anything immoral or un-Christian-like.
They really don't. (I've joked that if I changed my name to Terri Schiavo,
I'd
have members of *Congress* driving me to the local Piggly-Wiggly and back.)
But here's a thought: If the atheist/agnostic bloggers out there pick up my
story and carry it, I would finally get some justice. And believe you me, I
can
back up what I've said -- and a *whole* lot more.
Right now, I'm just target-practice for the atheist haters out here who just
hope I would just shrivel up and die -- or go away.
Anyway, thanks again for your concern. It certainly feels good to have a
genuinely concerned and sympathetic alt.atheist supporter boost my morale.
Till the next time,
Greywolf

In article <12546b1qdoq0e33@corp.supernews.com>,
says...
I am about to lose my home and a significant amount of property in Marinette
County, Wisconsin.
You need to get people involved at the state or federal level, for one
thing. You need to call radio stations, write letters to newspapers,
congressmen and whoever might be willing to listen. As to paying the
property tax, it seems that you should be able to send them a certified
letter containing a check. Lacking that, go get a phonebook and look up
a lawyer in another county in the state. Call that person. Take a bus
or rent a car if you need to go talk to that person.
Lacking that, if it comes to actually losing the property, I don't
suppose that you have fire insurance on the house <wink, wink> Non-
existent god forbid that it would get burned to the ground and all the
land sowed with salt, while all you get is a check from the insurance
company.

For what it's worth, I am going to post my story again, in an amended
version,
a little later. This is really 'Twilight Zone' stuff. I should add that my
'original'
home burned down in September of '04. I have been without running water to
my present home since then! And none of the so-called Christians
participating
in all of this seem think, apparently, that they are acting very
un-Christian-like.
I finally submitted my story via e-mail to a local television station last
night.
It remains to be seen if they feel it worthy of news coverage.
Your 'suggestion' is quite amusing -- and creative.

I just feel that I need to add that when I wrote, 'our' country and not
'Jesus's,
I meant us 'normal' americans -- americans of (almost) every type of
religious
persuasion, and/or lack thereof. Those who want to, 'Reclaim America for
Christ'
need not apply -- at least not in my book. We are a democratic country, not
a
'theocratic' one.

Hello again.
I'm glad to be back after a very long absence.
I think those of you who have experienced persecution -- for lack of a
better word -- at the hands of Christian (immoral) hypocrites can relate
to
my plight. And be rest assured that what I am reporting here is NO joke.
I am about to lose my home and a significant amount of property in
Marinette
County, Wisconsin. 'And why is that?', you ask? Well its because the
County's Corporation Counsel, County Treasurer, and the County's Property
Lister are preventing me from paying my property taxes. And why is that,
you
ask? Because they *can* -- so they say. And '*why* can they do that to
such
a nice, affable atheist as yourself?', you ask. 'Isn't there a Wisconsin
law
or statute that would prevent them from doing such a nasty and despicable
right-wing Christian thing to poor old you?', you ask.
Funny, I asked that very same question. Guess what the reply was? I was
told
that I needed to find an attorney to prove that what they are doing is
legal. They can't and won't point to a statute that supports their
position.
Well as far a hiring a lawyer: I live in a county which is controlled, for
the most part, by a Tom Delay wanna-be type. AND I AM NOT JOKING. Any
lawyer
I could enlist (and I have tried many) to represent me would effectively
be
committing career suicide.
(I live seven miles away
from
*my* town and about three miles away (my way) from my 'other' town (which
has no proper grocery store) and I have no transportation, other than a
bicycle. So in short, I am being clubbed like a baby seal out here. (I
guess
all this is being done to be for the Greater Glory of God, I suppose.)
Any suggestions?
Note: Although none of the local state officials are doing anything about
Tom Delay, Jr. over here, I *have* reported some of his antics to Senator
Russ Feingold's office -- including his part in an insurance scam
involving
himself and 'my' insurance company concerning the (suspicious) destruction
of my home by fire. We'll see what happens with that!
As for some 'normal' alt-atheism stuff, I'll get to that in a bit.
Whew, it sort of feels like I'm among friends again. And its a very good
feeling.
Greywolf
That sucks, big time! :(
I wish there was something concrete that I could do, but being on the
other side of the world makes that a trifle difficult!
You could make all the papers and TV by being the first person to
smuggle themselves across the Mexican border, but the other way around
from usual!
(And by claiming refugee status in Mexico, from political persecution
by corrupt US bastards, your case would be guaranteed international
attention!)

I just feel that I need to add that when I wrote, 'our' country and not
'Jesus's,
I meant us 'normal' americans -- americans of (almost) every type of
religious
Yes, that automatically occured to me.
It is very much the default position in Australia.
Religious indoctrination of any form, any where, is quite rare.
And "our" means every citizen, from newborns to those nearly ready for
a box, and includes working dogs, wombats, and select platypuses.
persuasion, and/or lack thereof. Those who want to, 'Reclaim America for
Christ'
need not apply -- at least not in my book. We are a democratic country, not
a
'theocratic' one.
Well said.
I really find it very hard to imagine just how thick on the ground is
Christ-insanity in Yankee-Land.
I often get the feeling that I still grossly underestimate its
pervasiveness.
I really think that if I found myself living under the burden of such
a viciously bigoted and essentially unfair theocracy, that I would
have moved to a more liberal country a long time ago, assuming that I
had no ties to the place, such as being a descendant of the original
inhabitants.
(As you use a native name, I am guessing that such is a possibility in
your case, although it is none of my business at all.)
Keep in touch, OK?
