More than Education
The Washington Post recently published an investigative series, revealing
D.C.'s public schools are "close to the highest-spending and worst-
performing in the nation." The results include low test scores, dilapidated
buildings-and neglected students, some of whom end up in a life of
crime.
According to the Post, "just over half of teenage students attend schools
that meet the District's definition of 'persistently dangerous,' because of
the number of violent crimes." In these conditions, educators have their
hands full just trying to keep order, let alone teaching students.
One student who ended up on the streets was Leslie Sharp. After
attending six different schools, some which kicked him out and some he
just left, Leslie dropped out of school in 11th grade.
"By the time Sharp finally did stay put somewhere, he was behind bars,"
writes columnist Mark Fisher. "Convicted of selling guns on the streets,
he spent nearly two years in jail."
And that's when Leslie Sharp's life turned around, and he earned his high
school equivalency diploma. He got a better education behind bars than in
the classroom.
It all happened because a guard encouraged him to join a reading group
run by an organization called Free Minds, which introduces teen inmates
to reading and creative writing. After their release, the group connects the
former inmates with jobs and more books.
Today, Leslie is 19 and "working as an intern at the National Juvenile
Defender Center, putting together brochures for young people facing
criminal charges." He's also trying to get into college to study
architecture.
Now, anything that leads ex-prisoners to become productive and
contributing citizens in society is a good thing. But education is not the
only thing, nor is it the most important. You can educate a prisoner and
what you will get is an educated criminal. You have to change his heart.
Leslie recognizes that fact.
"[Leslie] doesn't blame the D.C. schools for where he ended up," writes
Fisher. "He figures he's the one who decided to make his way on the
streets." He revealed as much in one of his poems when he wrote, "These
are my consequences from the way I acted."
Says Leslie, "You can tell a child anything, but they're going to do what
they want." And the lack of moral direction in a family compounds
children's rebelliousness.
Research bears this out, that crime is caused not by poverty or
environment, as most people supposed, but by people making wrong
moral choices (as Leslie admitted) and lack of moral training during the
morally formative years.
That's why we at Prison Fellowship do what we do-breaking the cycle
of crime by introducing prisoners and their families to the truly
transforming power and grace of Jesus Christ; surrounding them with
believers who will disciple them so they may make the right moral
choices. And BreakPoint is here to help Christians live out the biblical
worldview in all areas of life and then go out and transform their local
communities, ministering to those in need.
Won't you partner with us, by volunteering and donating to the ministry
so we can continue our much-needed work? Education may get ex-
inmates a job, but a life-long relationship with Christ and His people will
truly transform their lives.

I agree. I'm always throwing them away, though. I tend to pick up three or
four on impulse, normally on a Friday, and I always think I'll get through
them during the weekend. Then when I finally look at them it's Monday, and
they've all gone a bit green and I feel I have to bin them. I have a friend
called Perry who actually likes them that way; but then she's always getting
sell-by-date sin and feeding it to her boyfriend: she says that by spraying
water on it and toasting it a bit you can make it seem less stale; but I
disagree. Funny thing is, she's always chucking two-day-old sacraments in
the trash. I say to her: "Perry, that's a perfectly good outward
manifestation of an inward and spiritual grace -- and you are just throwing
it away!" But she claims they go all rotten and hollow from the inside if
you don't swallow them whole before about 65AD, so what can you do...?

A Soul Is a Terrible Thing to Waste
Someone who should know better
.. Is there emptiness in your life?
Do you feel empty? Is there something lacking? Do you long for something
but don't quite know what it is? Are you longing for fulfillment? Are you
unsatisfied with the daily routine of work, or school, or whatever? Maybe
when you are by yourself and you look deep inside, you just don't feel
content. Something is missing. Maybe you've discovered that indulging the
desires of your flesh and mind have not produced the peace and tranquility
that you need. When I was younger I sought many things to replace God. I
tried to identify with something, a cause, a philosophy, even a look. I
was seeking an identity. For a while those things where entertaining and
even exciting. But ultimately, the same emptiness came back. I can
remember one night I was looking for something to break the boredom. I
watched the people around me as they were pursuing the same thing I was and
suddenly I realized how futile and empty it all was. I realized that if I
got what I wanted I would still be unsatisfied. I wanted more than the same
old thing. I wanted something that wouldn't leave me feeling empty after a
little while. I wanted something real. Somehow, I knew I could only be
satisfied by encountering God and finding His purpose. In His great mercy,
God has touched me. In the midst of my sin, in spite of pursuing my fleshly
desires, He came to me and healed my heart. Emptiness is no longer my
companion. In fact, it is so unfamiliar to me that I can barely remember
what it was like. Now, I have peace, contentment, and fulfillment because
I have found salvation and fellowship with God. This fellowship is found in
Christ. "God is faithful through whom you are called into fellowship with
his son, Jesus Christ," (1 Cor. 1:9). When you find Christ and his
salvation, you discover your purpose and you find your hope fulfilled.
Good bye emptiness.

my oldest sister died, my mother died, and one of my best friends died and
my boyfriend died. He bought me all my groceries, gasoline, cookware,
utensils, everything I ever needed, and I never asked for any of it. I
really was born a good person, and I guess people just see that because
whenever I'm in a situation where I have no place at all to get money, or
because all of my friends live in other states, I've never had any family
support at all. My father died when I was 15 and my mother was a dishonest,
selfish woman. She leaned on me always and steered me away from my
ambitions. I was always so trusting I just always did what she wanted me to
do. She didn't care about me at all. She didn't know what university I went
to, what degrees I have, honor societies I belong to, all the volunteering
I've done, etc. I have next to nothing and yet all on my own I got outside
help. I found the only person in my family that I ever loved, a cousin who
lives in Texas, and she's just the sweetest most loving person ever. Hard
to believe she came from our demented family. My father was the only person
in my life who was a well cultured, intelligent, honest and loving person.
He taught me how important education is, playing music, helping other
people, etc. I carry him in me in my life.
Faith
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not
seen." (Hebrews 11:1) It is synonymous with trust. It is a divine gift
(Romans 12:3) and comes by hearing the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)
It is the means by which the grace of God is accounted to the believer who
trusts in the work of Jesus on the cross. (Ephesians 2:8) Without faith it is
impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6) It is by faith that we live our
lives, "The righteous shall live by faith." (Habakkuk 2:4 ; (Romans 1:17)
Ephesians 6:10-20 NIV
Ephesians 6
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against
the devil's schemes.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against
the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil
comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done
everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with
the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel
of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the
saints.
19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be
given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it
fearlessly, as I should.

Nope.

Do you, Mr. Jones?
(apologies to Dylan)
I've observed with amusement for quite some time the theistic claim
that their mythologies can "cure" this sense of "longing". I've come
to a conclusion about it:
Only the lesser examples of humanity desire religion. Those of us who
are too ignorant about the physical nature of the universe need
"supernatural" explanations for its mysteries. Those of us who are too
shy to make friends need imaginary ones to feel loved. Those of us who
are too ugly to find sexual partners need an excuse to vent their
jealousy at those of us who are not.
When someone I know discovers I'm an atheist, their first question is
"how did you get to be that way?" They always expect a tale of woe and
loneliness. They are always disappointed. "Because I can read" doesn't
allow them to sell their snake oil as a solution to my (alleged)
troubles. They just can't understand that except for a few things, I'm
pretty happy! And they're usually a little upset by that fact. You
see, it enforces every doubt they've ever had about the existence of
their chosen mythology. They cannot stand to see someone free from
such nonsense not place such nonsense at the core of their being-
because it confirms every doubt they ever had about its "truth".
So, that brings us to posts like the one this moron made. Scared,
quivering little wretch...no joy in real life. No family. No friends.
Plugging his ears with his fingers screaming
"thereISthereISthereISaGAWD" at the top of his exausted little lungs.
You folks who harbor doubts about your religion will end up like this
clown, if you don't give those doubts free rein. But there *is* hope.
Have you never considered that it's OK not to believe that stuff?
Millions of people don't believe it, and we're truckin' along just
fine. Better than most, actually, because we don't waste time on all
those neurotic mental gymnastics trying to reconcile stupid Bronze Age
mythologies with modern life.
Dare to imagine it. Your life made your own. No more slaving to the
sadistic old gods of our ignorant and superstitious ancestors. Just
try it once. I'll bet you'll be suprised.

A Soul Is a Terrible Thing to Waste
Someone who should know better ...
.. God's Plan of Salvation
The Bible says there is only one way to Heaven Jesus said: "I am the way,
the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John
14:6)
Good works cannot save you.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians
2:8-9)
Trust Jesus Christ today! Here's what you must do: Admit you are a sinner.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin;
and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Romans 5:12)
"If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is
not in us." (1 John 1:10)
Be willing to turn from sin (repent). Jesus said: "I tell you, Nay: but,
except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:5)
"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men
every where to repent:" (Acts 17:30)
Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and rose from the
dead. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life." (John 3:16)
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners. Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved." (Romans 10:9)
Through prayer, invite Jesus into your life to become your personal
Saviour. "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with
the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:10)
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
(Romans 10:13)
What to pray:
Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ
shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from
sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal
Saviour.
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12)
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have received Jesus Christ as your Saviour, as a Christian you
should:
Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better. "Study to shew
thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psalms
119:105)
Talk to God in prayer every day. "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask
in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matthew 21:22)
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Philippians
4:6)
Be baptized, worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a
church where Christ is preached and the Bible is the final authority. "Go
ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" (Matthew 28:19)
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some
is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day
approaching." (Hebrews 10:25)
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"
(2 Timothy 3:16)
Tell others about Christ. "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)
"For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity
is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" (1
Corinthians 9:16)
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God
unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to
the Greek." (Romans 1:16)

from the Fall of Man.
THE EFFECTS OF THE FALL
We do not know how long it was before Adam exercised his will contrary to
the will of God, thus breaking, immediately and completely, the fellowship
which had existed between Adam and God. Sin severed the creature from
fellowship with the Creator! And the effects of Adam's sin are
far-reaching. In the first chapter of the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul
shows the effects of Adam's sin. First of all, the apostle shows that the
intellect of man was darkened by the fall, so that man in his intellect
could not know God. Romans 1:19-20 states, "That which may be known of God
is manifest in them [that is, among them]; for God hath shewed it unto
them. For the invisible things of him [that is, about God] from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things
that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are
without excuse." From these verses we learn that creation is a revelation
of the wisdom of God, and that nature is an open book in which all men may
see two things: God's eternal power, and His Godhood or deity. But even
though men were able, through that revelation, to know something of God,
how did they respond? "When they knew God, they glorified him not as God,
neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations [that is,
their thought processes], and their foolish heart [that is, their seat of
perception], was darkened" (Rom. 1:21). In Ephesians 4:17 the same truth
is affirmed: "This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye
henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity [or, emptiness]
of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the
life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the
blindness of their heart." There, the apostle affirms again what he taught
in Romans 1, that the heart of the natural man is darkened because of sin.
The apostle did not say that the mind is blindfolded, but rather, blinded.
If one has been blindfolded, all he needs to do is to remove the blindfold
and he will see. But Paul says that men have been blinded by sin. They no
longer have the capacity to see. The first great result then of Adam's sin
is that man's intellect was darkened.
Not only was man's intellect darkened but his emotional capacity was
degraded. "God . gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their
own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed
the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more
than the Creator, who is blessed for ever, Amen. For this cause, God gave
them up to vile affections" (Rom. 1:24-26a). In Ephesians 4:19 we read:
"Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to
work all uncleanness with greediness." It is not that man lost his
emotional capacity, but his emotional capacity was so perverted and
prostituted that it cannot be directed Godward. Thus the natural man
cannot experience fellowship between his heart and the heart of God.
Romans 1 closes by showing us another result of Adam's fall: the will of
man was deadened Godward. In verse 32 we learn that men, "knowing the
judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death,
not only do the same [notice it, do the same], but have pleasure in them
that do them." In Romans 7:18 Paul says, "I know that in me (that is, in
my flesh) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how
to perform that which is good I find not." Natural man is marked by the
deadness of his will toward God. In Romans 8:7, the apostle says, "The
carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be." In Galatians 5:17 the apostle again adds his
testimony, "The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against
the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot
do the things that ye would." When you put these passages together, you
find that Paul consistently teaches that while a man still has a will, and
can choose, his will is a will that is enslaved to sin, a will that cannot
and will not exercise itself Godward, a will that wills only that which is
iniquitous.
Because of the fall of Adam, man has been brought under judgment and under
a curse, but he still continues to be a man. He did not lose his
personality; he has not been degraded to the level of an animal. But it is
impossible for man to exercise his God-given capacities Godward. The
unsaved man has an intellect, but it has been darkened and he cannot know
God; he has an emotional capacity, but it has been degraded, and he cannot
love God; he has a will that has been deadened toward God and he cannot
and will not obey God. Even though God created us for fellowship with
Himself, so that He might be glorified through our fellowship with Him,
that purpose is unattainable in the natural man. Man still bears the image
of God and possesses the component parts of personality, yet he has been
so bound and enslaved that he cannot exercise these parts of His
personality Godward to the glory of God.

Sharks and alligators ate plants before Adam and Eve ate the forbidden
fruit? Are you serious?
from the Fall of Man.
There was no fall of man. That's just a superstitious myth that
you're gullible or brainwashed enough to believe in.
THE EFFECTS OF THE FALL
We do not know how long it was before Adam exercised his will contrary to
the will of God, thus breaking, immediately and completely, the fellowship
which had existed between Adam and God.
According to Genesis, Adam and Eve weren't even created to be immortal
in the first place.
Gen 3:21-22
"The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed
them. And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us,
knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand
and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
If they were immortal to begin with, the Elohim wouldn't have been
afraid of them eating from the tree of life and living forever.
Aside from biblical mythology, imagine what the world would be like
if mice and rats and rabbits and other vermin never died, as fast as
they breed. There would be no food left for humans.
