Object: A story
A group of people found themselves up to their waist in a sea of *****,
that stretched on for miles and beyond the horizon.
One of them stood there, cleaning and tidying himself, patiently
believing that eventually someone would come by and dig him out of the
*****. A small group of the people followed in suit.
Another of them, figured no one would come, and started trying to dig
himself out of the ***** on his own. A small group of the people followed
in suit.
Another person waded through the sea of *****, and started chatting with
everyone else.
The two other groups saw what they were doing.
The group trying to dig themselves out said "What are doing? Don't you
know that if you help us, we could all be out of here sooner?"
The group waiting for someone to come by said, "What are doing? Don't
you know that if you don't clean yourself off, when help arrives they
may turn you away?"
The group trying to dig themselves out said to those waiting, "When help
arrives? Look around you! I see no help, and neither do we! Surely,
there can be no help but what we do for ourselves!!"
And those waiting for help to arrive said to those digging, "Help
yourselves? Look around you! For as far as the eye can see, there is no
place for us to go! The only ones that can help us, are beyond this sea
of *****!"
And thus did the two groups continue to bicker, the third still wading
about chatting as if nothing were amiss, and so it was, until the end of
their days.
THE END.

I like it. Somewhat reminiscent of one of Kurt Vonnegut's religions,
wherein God makes Man out of mud. The Man looks around, and asks God,
"What is the purpose of all this?" God replies, "Does everything need to
have a purpose?" Man: "Yes." God: "Then your purpose is to find a
purpose for it all." And God left.
