A Thought On Terrorism Futures Market |
It's already been done, in a way.
The Lee Atwater Memorial Invitational
http://www.stiffs.com/
Top 20 people projected to die this year, according to the "futures"
market:
Warren Zevon 289
Carol Shields 179*
Johnny Oates 169
Lester Maddox 163
Barney Kessel 159
Bob Hope 148*
Ronnie Hawkins 119
Strom Thurmond 110*
Ronald Reagan 99
Madame Chiang Kai-Shek 85
Lady Bird Johnson 84
Pope John Paul II 78
Skeeter Davis 64
Bobby Bonds 61
Tom Laughlin 61
Ronnie Biggs 59
Leni Riefenstahl 50
Jim Otto 49
Sarah Brady 46
Katharine Hepburn 44*
* denotes deceased
This of course give you a flavor what the terrorism futures market
might have been like. Of course the Poindexters did not realize that
their futures market will be all fun and games until someone buys a
contract on an American, which would be sometimes around the second
day of the market.

"Pick ten famous people you think might die between January 1 and
December 31, 2003. Each entry costs you 15 bucks, and at the end of
the year, the list with the most dead celebs wins $2003.00 in cold,
hard, American currency."
I wonder what that $2003 represents exactly? If you have to pay
$150 to get into the pool, does that mean there's only 15 people
in the pool right now?
From my reading of it, it costs $15 to pick 10. (If you want to pick
another 10, it's another $15.)
$2003 is just this year. It means that, for the guy who runs the site
to make money, he has to get 134 people to join.

I guess I was confusing "entry" with each celebrity you bet on.

He probably takes a cut off the top, don't you think?
