A year after Katrina |
Ran across the following link after reading some year-after pages.
From:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_theories_regarding_Hurricane_Katrina
=========
"Various political and religious leaders have suggested that Hurricane
Katrina was sent as a divine retribution for the City of New Orleans,
or the Southern United States, or for the United States as a whole. A
variety of past actions are blamed, from the legalization of abortion
and homosexuality to the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq to the
creation of reality television, and future changes in political policy
are recommended."
"Ray Nagin, Mayor of New Orleans, in a famous speech [8] credits God;
God's reasons: Iraq, the irresponsibility of black America
Avner Bosky [10] credits God; God's reason: U.S. Pressure for Israel
to withdraw from Gaza
Fred Phelps [11] credits God; God's reason: Homosexuals
"New Orleans, symbol of America, seen for what it is: a putrid, toxic,
stinking cesspool of fag fecal matter. [...] Pray for more dead bodies
floating on the fag-semen-rancid waters of New Orleans."
Steve Lefemine [12] credits God; God's reason: Abortion (article
originally from the Washington Post, as carried on the Houston
Chronicle site, also reposted on the ExChristian.net site
Reverend Bill Shanks [13] credits God; God's reasons: Abortion,
debauchery, homosexuals, witchcraft

Does anyone else see a pattern with the religious fanatics when
it comes to explaining natural disasters? I think it's seen both
today, and in the writings of the religious fanatics in the past, such
as those who wrote about Sodom and Gomorrah, and blaming its
destruction on anal sex, hence where the word "sodomy" comes
from.
Yes, folks, a volcano erupted, spewing fire and brimstone, because the
creator of the entire universe doesn't like gay people, and he can
also control hurricanes to kill you as well, so you'd better get your
act together!! <sigh>

It seems that they are better at attributing calamities to god's
displeasure after the fact than they are at predicting them. I'm still
waiting for Pat Robertson's god to smack Disneyworld with a meteor.
