AA - OT - Identity theft ... Again |
Some *****... (I'm being kind.. supressing a murderous
rage...) has used my phone number to get a credit card and now I'm
being harassed two or three times a day with messages on my 'business'
machine. I'm losing work because my messages are being erased,
overwritten by demands for money.
These companies hand out cards like candy and don't give a *****
about honest, pay on time users.
I've decided to harass them back.
***** them! My phone is off the hook and on a loop foever with their
800 number. 24/7 forever!

I hope that they catch the *****. I know what you mean about credit
cards. I get bombarded with three or four applications a week. I just
shred them, but I worry if someone got a hold of one, it has my name and
address on it, and somehow got my phone number or some other
information, the same could happen to me.

You can arrange it so no credit applications or other bank
solicitations are sent to you by calling 800-4-optout. At least, I'm
pretty sure that's the number. I did this about three weeks ago and
have already gone from receiving about 2 solicitations a week to none.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

Of course you've called the police, and the credit bureaus as well as
your current credit card providers.
Start legally, get a lawyer and don't play phone loop games. Go at
them head on and good luck. You could get on TV and make millions if
you play your cards right.
If that fails, *then get creative. You could get on TV and make

What's even worse is when they just crank call you. For about a year
from 2003 to 2004, I was getting two calls a day where there was nobody
on the other end. Appearently it is legal to "overbook/overdial" a
operator pool and if there isn't an available operator when a call is
made, the victim gets just dead air.

Good explanation. I get 2-3 per day. Bastards.

Caller ID.
Caller ID doesn't work against such operator pools, nor does initiating
a call trace and a complaint through the phone company.
It truly is legalized crank-callling harassment.

Caller ID works. If it's not a number you recognize or a name you
recognize then either don't pick up the phone or wait for the answering
machine to pick up. You can always pick up the phone once you've
determined who it is or simply let the electronic secretary take the
message.

Many systems allow you to block calls that don't display a caller id.
Might be worth a try?
