aa - QOTM winners for March 2004 |
Here are the winners for March 2004.
AQOTM: Our winner this month had a runaway victory. With 11 votes, the
award goes to Douglas Berry :
4) I was willing to give my life to defend the ideals enshrined in the
Constitution of the United States. In fact, as a soldier in the
mid-eighties, I expected to die if the balloon went up in Europe.
I wasn't going to get anything but a soldier's grave, and perhaps a
paragraph in my hometown paper. Nobody would venerate my name, and my
death would have been just another day's work for Graves Registration.
Yet I did it. With no promise of eternal godhood. I did it because I
believed in freedom.
Jesus, if he existed, was inconvenienced for a weekend and became God.
His sacrifice is non-existant compared to the one made by every soldier
who ever died nameless on some forgotten battlefield.

TQOTM: This month, our winner is an interesting, non-drooling quote.
With 8 votes the award goes to Richard Crawford:
3) As a Christian, I will happily admit that there can be no positive
logical or empirical evidence for the existence of God. It's an
assumption made on faith, reinforced by emotion and experience and
possibly revelation (I won't claim to have received any divine
revelation myself). Logic and physical evidence, however, have nothing
to do with faith. Those are for describing the physical universe.
Faith, however, is fundamentally irrational and illogical; thus no
discussion of faith or God or whatever can involve the use of logic to
prove its premises. Any attempts to "prove" that God exists just end
sounding silly to people who know how logic works.
An atheist takes a perfectly reasonable and logical point of view that
something has not been proven to exist without enough evidence to make
denial perverse (a typical atheist may not have ever been to Russia, but
it would be foolish to assume that the atheist does not believe in the
existence of Russia, unless they are a total solipsist).
