OK, so the Quotemeister has been slacking for a bit. I blame
Christmas... I got a cool video game and I've been playing it night and
day all month. At least I've gotten caught up on the nominations in time
to post this month's ballots. And I haven't missed a day of work all
month, so there. I expect to be more on top of things for February.
Here are the nominations for Atheist Quote of the Month for January
2005. Vote for your favorite by responding to this thread. Votes will be
accepted until midnight, Jan 31. See rules below. Questions? Comments?
Email me.
* * * * *
1) In response to:

What are your opinions on [statement about God and Satan]?

If you're ***** enough to even post such dribble, what difference does
an opinion make to your ignorance?
By: Steve Knight
Nominated: stoney
Seconded: AngryJohn
------------
2) In response to:

People who are not sick do not need a physician.

There are no "true" Christians in hospitals. :}
By: Lord Calvert
Nominated: AngryJohn
Seconded: Martin Crisp
------------
3) In response to:

And you're playing stupid. I say again: What "mix"?

Here are some small words, that maybe you'll understand Spec.

The dragons, gods, tooth fairy, unicorns, devils, daemons, angels,
Bigfoot, and others, belong to the land of fairy tales and myths.

Now, when you grow up, and learn the difference between each one of
them, and all the other gods of all the other religions in the world,
and recognize why you reject all but the one you like, then you will
have figured out why an atheist rejects your god, along with the rest of
the mix.

Get it now child? Or do you wish to continue playing the fool?
By: Rev. Karl E. Taylor
Nominated: AngryJohn
Seconded: Robibnikoff
------------
4) Pain is not evil, pain is the idiot light on the dash board of the
human body.
By: Rev. Karl E. Taylor
Nominated: Ian Braidwood
Seconded: Martin Crisp
------------
5) In response to:

My son told me that atheists have an easier time in life as the devil

has

succeeded in his work with them.

Neither the devil or your god exist and your son's an idiot. You
probably are one as well.
By: Robibnikoff
Nominated: Tink
Seconded: AngryJohn
------------
6) Unlike the church we dont actually KILL people, We were kidding to
relive stress.
We have been putting up with people like you for the life of this group
coming in here and leaving your steaming turds all over, people like
you, full of screaming hypocracy and hate.
We come hear to talk to other people about how we came to to the
conclusions we came to, and how it effects our lives amongst the
religion fixated. Not to be preached at by little fascist pinheads for
Jeebus.
Or do you feel that your presence and expressions of verbal drool should
be the source for an outpouring of love? You come here full of hate
and slander for all who will not accept the christian blood god, and you
wonder why we don't welcome you with open arms.
Get the clue.

Nominated: Robibnikoff
Seconded: Specter133

7) In response to:

Sky News snippet "I was walking along the [Indonesian] beach and the

only

thing left standing untouched amongst the devastation was a statue of
jesus..."

As usual, the miracle needed was for gawd to have stopped the tsunami,
perhaps by slowly releasing the energy in the fault without it causing
a
massive quake. However, the miracles that are always reported do not
prevent death, but mysteriously leave statues standing and scorch
faces
of the virgin mary onto grilled cheese sandwiches. Gawd can't stop
thousands of people from being crushed. But apparently he does use
his
power to protect some steel girders that vaguely for the shape of a
"cross". If these trivial actions are really the intervention of god,
then he is one stupid, callous *****, with no sense of
priorities.
By: quibbler
Nominated: Tink
Seconded: stoney
------------
8) No, "Creationism" is no more a theory than is the menu at the local
Denneys.
By: Enkidu
Nominated: Colin Day
Seconded: Harry F. Leopold
------------
9) In response to:

Your desire was implanted by God, to perpetuate the species

God wants me to get hammered and *****. Hell yeah! As a result of this
posting I have decided to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and
Saviour.
By: sAnToLiNa
Nominated: Douglas Berry
Seconded: AngryJohn
------------
10) In response to:

The claim concerning the existence of an omnibenevolent,
interventionist God really does hold water.

A toilet also holds water.
And just like your claim, a toilet is often full of *****.
By: towelie
Nominated: JPG
Seconded: Levy Oates
------------
11) In response to:

In the beginning, the gene pool was clean...Later, after the gene pool
become less than clean,

Well that happens to gene pools if you leave them out in the Garden and
let serpents infect them. I give them a good wash with the Old
Testament, then to get them really clean I use the New super improved
Testament for that extra shining sparkle.
By: Levy Oates
Nominated: stoney
Seconded: Liz
------------
12) Christianity is a death-affirming religion. Instead of celebrating
life and well-being Christians glorify death and suffering. It is
unfortunate that they believe that the real importance of life depends
upon the unsubstantiated destination of a supposed incorporeal portion
of a human that is rumored to survive cessation of all bodily functions.
They spend inordinate energy trying to dress death up in pretty clothes
and calling it hope or salvation or GodŽ's will.
In truth, the meaning of a person's life is determined while alive by
what she does, whom she touches, and how she loves. This is what is
important. This is what survives in the memory of those who remain.
By: Liz
Nominated: stoney
Seconded: John Popelish
------------
13) The absolute-morality-from-God nonsense is one of the reasons
fundies aren't empathic. While the rest of us see good and bad in terms
of the effect of our actions on others, they see it as "what God says".
Which trumps what anybody else might feel about what the fundy does to
them.
By: Christopher A. Lee
Nominated: Carl Kaufmann
Seconded: stoney
------------
14) In response to:

The opposite of THEISM is NARCISISM

Let's get this straight:

God, the be-all and end-all of the cosmos, takes the time to help you
score a touchdown in the big game.

God, the all-powerful lord of creation, cares about your ingrown toe
nail.

God, the creator and maintainer of the universe, frets when you
masturbate.

God, the ineffable all-father, loves you deeply, personally, and
endlessly.

God, king of kings, debased himself and sent his son to die for you,
personally, so that you could hang out with him, forever.

You say that someone who doesn't believe all this, who doesn't believe
the Alpha of the Universe isn't intimately concerned with your
day-to-day welfare and your eternal fate, is a narcissist.

How quaint.

Next up: eating cheese-n-bacon french fries while watching TV all day,

16) In response to "footybet":
Would an omnipotent omnipresent 'God' create an idiot like you ?
Nope, your just another example of natures method of 'trial-and error'.
By: Jez
Nominated: stoney
Seconded: TCS
------------
17) Out there, in some distant misty corner of the Internet, is the
sound of someone giving a *****. You need to go find that poor, besnotted
bobbleheaded dungpile ant talk to it instead.

18) Look, Adam ate an apple 6,000 years ago. That's absolutely
unforgivable. I mean even a perfect, loving, merciful God has limits.
Torturing his own son to death didn't even seem to do the trick, God's
still an apple down.
Naturally the only way to placate his fury is to create people who are
miserable both in this life and the next one. This source of divine
amusement will presumably continue until god gets bored, although he
seems to have a very high boredom threshold.

The point is that many atheists are blindly following the crowd,
unaware that socialist groups are using them for their own goals.

Heh. K.C. continues to pitch his odd contention that daring to be a
Christian in an overwhelmingly Christian country, currently governed by
a loudly Christian president, is an act of rugged individualism and a
sign of the courage to make up one's own mind, while being an atheist --
joining spirits with a tiny and frequently despised minority -- is
somehow "going along with the crowd".

Here are the rules for the Quote of the Month Contests.

RULES

1. Only atheists and agnostics may participate in the contests.

2. A quote is a valid entry for the contests if:

a. The quote is a brief piece of text;

b. The quote has recently been written in alt.atheism (verifiable);

c. Nomination of the quote is made by an atheist or agnostic
in alt.atheism

d. Nomination of the quote is supported by at least one other
atheist or agnostic in alt.atheism;

e. The quote is not nominated or seconded by the person who wrote it
in
the first place (no one is allowed to nominate him- or herself,
but a person
can vote for the quote he or she wrote.)

3. There will be two categories: 'Atheist Quote of the Month'
and 'Theist Quote of the Month'. The category for which a
quote must be nominated must be mentioned by the atheist or
agnostic who wants to nominate it.

If a quote is miscategorized (e.g. an atheist quote is mistakenly
nominated in the Theist QOTM category), the quote will be re-directed
to appear in the correct category, with approriate notification.

4. Nominations can be made until five days before the first of the
next month. If quotes are nominated after this period, they will be
considered as entries for the contest of the next month.

* When making a nomination, please use this format for the subject
line:
"aa - <A or T as applicable>QOTM Nomination (was: <original thread
name>)"

5. Each atheist or agnostic who visits alt.atheism has one vote to
cast for each category (two votes total).

6. Voting starts 5 days before the end of the month. During the month,
votes will be ignored. This way, all nominees will have equal chance of
winning.

7. The two winning quotes will be published in the QOTM Archive.

SUMMARY

A nomination must contain the following information:

1. The lines of the quote.

2. Who wrote it.

3. Who nominates or seconds the nomination of this quote (that's you!)

4. Which category this nomination is for.

5. The word "nomination" MUST appear somewhere in the subject line!

6. The original thread title must appear in the subject line.
Publish the nomination or support for a nomination in a designated
thread, preferably called "[T/A]QoTM Nomination for [month]." You can
also e-mail it to me (see below).

VOTING

1. In the last five days of the month you can cast your vote in both
categories.

2. Votes must be placed in the designated thread.

But apparently he does use
his
power to protect some steel girders that vaguely for the shape of a

then he is one stupid, callous *****, with no sense of
priorities.

How quaint.
